Hell to the yes! New Nox Arcana!

Blackthorn Asylum
Blackthorn Asylum, the new album from Nox Arcana

I came across the band Nox Arcana on something like their ninth studio album, Grimm Tales.  Don’t know who Nox Arcana is?  Have you ever been to a Universal Studios Halloween Horror Nights or a Busch Gardens’ Howl-O-Scream (or whatever your area does for Pauloween) and wondered what that cool, creepy music is they have playing throughout the park that sets you on edge, even when you’re not walking through a haunted house?  That’s Nox Arcana.

Nox Arcana was formed in 2003 by Joseph Vargo and William Pitrowski and since, they’ve released TEN ALBUMS!  Their music is very gothic in tone, and the perfect thing to get you in the mood to read a scary novel, have a Pauloween party, or write your own tales from the macabre (I listen to them frequently when writing).  Each of their albums has had a different theme, like Darklore Manor (haunted houses), Carnival of Lost Souls (dark carnival), Grimm Tales (my personal favorite), and their most recent, Phantoms of the High Seas.  Great, great stuff to put you in a spooky mood.

Read about their newest CD, Blackthorn Asylum, after the jump!

Anyway, Nox Arcana’s newest CD, Blackthorn Asylum comes out June 22nd, and Nox Arcana just released a preview of the album, that you can listen to here!  Here’s a little info on Blackthorn Asylum.

Dare to explore the shadows of a forsaken sanitarium that is haunted by the souls of the dead and plagued by the dark essence of evil. This sinister soundscape contains 21 tracks of ghostly melodies, pulse-pounding orchestrations and creepy sound effects to set a dark, nightmarish mood.

High upon the rocky cliffs overlooking the Miskatonic River, the hollow edifice of Blackthorn Asylum stands as a sinister monument to the horrors that once lurked within its desolate halls. Originally built as a sanitarium for the criminally insane, the asylum gained a grim reputation for conducting horrible experiments upon the most violent and deranged psychopaths in an attempt to extract the essence of evil.

Tall gates of stone and wrought iron surround the grounds like a prison wall, allowing no possibility for escape, and the bleak confines of the asylum held no mercy or hope for those condemned to a sentence within. Over the decades, the torments inflicted upon the inmates resulted in unlocking the demons from their minds, but as a horrific consequence, the tortuous experimentation also unleashed the vile malediction that now infests the abandoned corridors.
