Guy Pearce and Katie Holmes in DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK!

The original Don't Be Afraid of the Dark

It seems like a week doesn’t go by where I’m not talking about a remake.  I’m too bummed about the idea to write about the remake/reboot of An American Werewolf in London, so instead I’ll focus on a remake of a film I’ve actually NOT seen!  I know…shocker.

Guy Pearce (Memento) and Bailee Madison (Bridge to Terabithia) are joining Katie Holes in the upcoming remake of Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, which is set to be directed by Troy Nixey (the superb Latchkey’s Lament) and produced by Guillermo Del Toro and Mark Johnson.

The original Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark was an early 1970’s made for TV flick about a girl who moves in with her father and his girlfriend and finds out that there are demons living with them. Pearce plays the dad, Holmes plays the girlfriend, and the young girl is played by Madison.

I’m definitely interested to see what Nixey can do visually with this film.  If you haven’t seen Latchkey’s Lament (check out more info here), you ‘re missing out on an excellent short film that shows that Nixey is definitely from the same school of filmmaking that Del Toro does.  Plus, I’m a big fan of Guy Pearce, and I think it’s about damn time he’s been in a big Hollywood production – jeez, when was the last time he was in a Hollywood picture?
