ARON: Hey, I read your Skulduggery Pleasant thing yesterday.  You know, my parents always said that had I been born a girl, they’d have named me Valkyrie Cain.   Weird, huh?

PAUL: Wow… really?

ARON: No, not really.  Actually, had I been born a girl, the ‘rents planned on naming me Tiffany Paige. Can you imagine how annoying SHE would have been?! Also, a big ho.

PAUL: Tiffany Paige.  Wow… you would have been sorority queen, though.

ARON: I would have had HUGE hair, too.  You know who else has got big hair?  The mighty Thor!

In the early spring of 1976, I discovered my very first comic book. I was nine years old and hanging out at the corner convenience store with my best friend, Stevie. While the clerk had his back turned, I dared my chum to steal something.

He stole a two cent piece of Bazooka Bubble Gum.

He then dared me to steal something, but it had to bigger than his.

hulk-vs-regular-cover-copyFor the price of one DVD, you receive two separate Marvel animated features in Hulk Vs.  They share some commonalities yet remain distinctly different movies, each having its own strengths.  And weaknesses.

Both films benefit from terrific soundtracks and excellent art direction.  Long have I complained that the Marvel animation lacks any real artistic chops.  It’s always felt generic and uninspired whereas DC’s animation from series television (Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series) to its features (New Frontier, Superman: Doomsday) have all been stunning.

Neither film is really about the Hulk, but rather the characters he opposes.  The Green Goliath is very much a guest star in both stories.  That’s a bit irritating that he couldn’t have had more character development or substance.   After all, it ain’t easy being green.

Newsarama.comWow.

For the last two days, I have been following a disturbing thread at Blog@Newsarama.  Blogger J. Caleb Mozzoco engaged in a little link-blogging posted an ill-conceived ‘joke’ concerning a children’s costume event.  The organizers of the event had put out a call for all “superheroes and fairies.” Mozzoco, playing on this wrote:  “Make your own superheroes are gay joke.”

As I write this, there are 15 responses to Mozzoco’s comment and the only ones defending it are Mozzoco himself and another Newsarama blogger.
