Neverland_teaser

Neverland, coming this December from Zenescope.

Peter Pan has gone insane.  He doesn’t want to grow up, and he’s found that the key to immortality  requires a steady supply of children.  Neverland isn’t the happy place it once was – now it’s a nightmare realm where children never leave.  The only person who can stop this madness?  A man by the name of HOOK!

We love the hell out of Zenescope here at IoM and, more specifically, are pretty batsh*t crazy about their Wonderland trilogy, written by the super cool Raven Gregory (love that guy!  Make sure you’re following him on Twitter!).

Neverland brings the same darkness that Zenescope is known for and brings it to the tale of the Peter Pan we know and love, twisting him into a character like we’ve never seen before.  Written by Joe Brusha (we spoke with him once before too), with art by Vic Durichio, the cover for issue #1 (which you see here) is by superstar artist David Finch!

Look for more information on Neverland here VERY soon, and make sure to pick up #0 when it comes out this December!

Agon, one of the new titles from Zenescope (check out the snazzy new logo!)

We here at IoM love Zenescope Comics.  And now, we’ve got some kick@$$ news from them about some of the new titles they’re premiering at this year’s San Diego Comic Con … check it below!

Zenescope announces Comic-Con International  Plans

Zenescope announced today it will debut a preview issue flip-book for two upcoming sci-fi titles as well as a limited edition convention exclusive celebrating the landmark 40th issue of its popular Grimm Fairy Tales series at Comic-Con International in San Diego July 22-26.  “We love doing fan conventions.  The Philly and New York shows we attended so far this year were fantastic and we’re excited for San Diego, which is our last stop in 2009.” said Zenescope’s Preseident Joe Brusha “We’re going to add more cities to our convention tour for 2010 since turnouts have been great.  And we’re encouraging our fans to stop by and see us in a couple weeks because we have some great stuff planned.”

The flip-book preview showcases Zenescope’s two brand new upcoming science fiction/action titles AGON and MERC, both scheduled for a fall 2009 release.

AGON is an epic five issue mini-series in which Earth is forced to participate in an intergalactic gladiatorial battle that pits highly evolved species from various planets against one another.  Earth’s people must pick their best warriors to compete in the ancient combat ritual of Agon, a tournament which will ultimately determine the fate of the planet.

MERC, another high concept mini-series, follows Sonny Grissom, a mercenary who upgrades his body through cybernetic enhancements and powerful steroid boosters.  But after years of serious mistreatment, Sonny’s body is failing.  With his conscience eating away, Grissom decides to gear up and accept the most daring contract of his wasted life, one that can save thousands of lives and give him a final shot at redemption.

The flip-book issue of AGON and MERC contains 28 pages of story and will retail at a $2.99 price point but will be available at Zenescope booth #2707 for just $1 during the convention weekend.

The Grimm Fairy Tales #40 convention exclusive is a limited edition issue and will also be available at booth 2707 while it lasts.
*Check www.zenescope.com the week prior to Comic-Con for creator signing times and more convention news.

If you’re attending the SDCC, make sure to swing by the Zenescope booth and let them know IoM sent you!

No Quarter, from ZenescopeJust got the bad news from Zenescope:

Zenescope Entertainment and No Quarter Entertainment have decided to cancel their plan to launch the pirate-themed comic book entitled NO QUARTER which was originally set for a June 2009 release date.  The venture was anticipated by Zenescope fans, especially those hungry for a pirate series.  “We feel bad that we let our fans down a bit after promoting the release and getting some great feedback but unfortunately sometimes the unexpected occurs.” said Zenescope Executive VP, Ralph Tedesco “We do wish No Quarter Entertainment luck with their future endeavors and hopefully the book will be published at some point, even if it’s not under the Zenescope label.”

Zenescope will still be launching two brand new titles this summer that have yet to be announced, both are set to debut preview issues at Comic Con International in July.

I’m sure we’ll see No Quarter in the near future from another company.  It’s a shame, as it seemed like an interesting title, but we’ll keep an eye out for it!

Beyond Wonderland #2Alice left Wonderland years ago, but Wonderland stuck with her.  And in the years that follow, Alice Liddle has grown as twisted as the land past the rabbit hole.  She’s gotten older, but mentally ill to the point that she’s tried to commit suicide by slitting her wrists.  She’s constantly in a living sleep, her only companion a creepy white rabbit that…well, it may actually be dead.  She has a husband who has a thing for hookers, and two teenaged kids, Johnny and Calie.

Johnny’s a creepy kid who seems to treat pictures of dead animals like internet porn, and Calie drinks, takes drugs, and parties with her boyfriend, dreaming of the day that she can leave her depressing home, and her mother’s mental illness, behind.  However, Calie gets dragged into Wonderland, where she meets the cannibalistic Cheshire Cat, the rapist Mad Hatter, a crazy Carpenter, and a maniacal Queen of Hearts.

She escapes just in time to find out her family’s dark history (no, I won’t tell you here!) and just what her brother has been doing at nights.  Still, Wonderland demands a soul, and to save our world, she sacrifices Johnny to the looking glass.  She leaves her home behind and runs to New York, where she assumes the fake name Lacy.

After learning she’s pregnant, Calie starts to think that something from Wonderland may have come back with her.  She’s being stalked, her friends are starting to disappear, and this fake life that she’s tried to make her reality is quickly unraveling.

One of the diabolical men behind this twisted take on Wonderland is writer Raven Gregory.  Raven gave us a little of his time recently to answer questions about the upcoming final issue of Beyond Wonderland, the middle part of the larger Wonderland trilogy from Zenescope Entertainment (it’s true…he says so below!), as well as some of his upcoming projects.  Check out our exclusive interview after the jump!

Grimm Fairy Tales #31 (Pinnochio)A young boy named Adam climbs a tree, falling from its branches and snapping his neck.  As the years go by, the tree’s root grow evil as livestock dies around it and countless tales of evil are whispered … this is one place where man is not meant to go.  A strong man is able to chop down the tree, and the remains of the evil tree are left in the hands of a woodcarver – a man named Geppetto.  He takes the wood and carves himself a son, a boy named Pinnochio.  Unfortunately, the evil of his wood makes Pinnochio a naughty boy, and a liar who covers up his evil deeds with tall tales that make his nose grow.  In an attempt to redeem his son, Geppetto is literally killed by his son’s lies.

A young woman is injured and nursed to health by a hideous beast.  This beast, once a brutish prince, has been cursed.  He must find true love by the time the petals of a magical rose fall, or else he will remain a beast forever.  The woman begins to have feelings for the beast, but when her fiance comes to rescue her, he is horribly murdered by the beast.  The beauty, so distraught by the death of her fiance, ends her own life, sealing the beast’s fate for all eternity.

Not quite the way you remember the tales?  Well, its the way Zenescope remembers them.  By taking the original darkness of our favorite tales and injecting even more horror, Zenescope has been publishing the successful Grimm Fairy Tales since 2005.

Zenescope may be primarily known for their excellent ongoing series Grimm Fairy Tales, but with licensed comics based on the Seven and Final Destination movies under their belt, a successful dark spin on the Alice in Wonderland tale, a unique take on the voyages of Sinbad, and some exciting original properties later this year, that’s all about to change.

We spoke to Ralph Tedesco, Vice President of Zenescope Studios and one of the writers of Grimm Fairy Tales about the publisher’s plans for 2009, and even have an exciting announcement about a new Grimm Fairy Tales spin-off later this year!  Read our exclusive interview after the jump!
