fb2010_47tallIt was bound to happen.  Paul was whisked screaming into the jungle by the smoke monster.  Screaming.  Like a little girl.   We mourn his loss as he’d want us to, by talking about the week’s comics.

  • Paul’s away this week, apparently testifying before Congress
  • Wayne is all that and a bag of chips
  • Aron sucks at Xbox and hates delayed gratification
  • Red Dead Redemption and ending the games resale market
  • War of the Supermen #3
  • Brightest Day #2
  • Second Coming Update
    • X-Men Legacy #236
    • X-Factor #205
  • Invincible Iron Man #26
  • Legion of Super Heroes #1
  • Zatanna #1
  • The Avengers #1
  • Atlas #1
  • What is the Heroic Age?

bbowlFrancis can suck my big toe.  His video game reviews are…how to put this nicely?  Adequate, I guess.  Y’know, if you haven’t played many video games.  So I thought I’d show him, here at The Wizard Sleeve, just how things are done this time, since I’ll be covering a tabletop game turned video game.

After many long years, it has finally happened.  Someone took a tabletop miniatures game and translated it directly into a video game.  Sure, there have been numerous games based on tabletop rules, but almost all of them adapt the idea instead of sticking to the rules that brought players in to begin with.  Blood Bowl changes that.  So, if you’re already a fan of the tabletop version of the game you have no reason to not pick this up right now.  For the rest of you ill-informed heathens, let me bring you up to speed. Ganon. Because why ruin a good thing?

I haven’t beaten all of the Zelda games, but I’ve played most of them. What gamer our age doesn’t remember that original over world music playing as you walk into the cave. Those fateful words from the old man as he hands you that first sword Link wields. Those words change me in ways I can’t even begin to describe. It is dangerous to go alone. I need to take something with me…

Windwaker starts with you learning the old stories of Ganon being defeated by Link, though I don’t know which time this defeat is. Since Nintendo likes to beat dead horses, every Zelda game has the same plot, same grappling hook and boomerang and the same enemy that occasionally changes his name.

But screw it, we keep playing because it’s a god story and we like the familiarity, s lets talk about this specific one rather then bust on the little leprechaun looking guy. Read the rest of this entry »

This is Audie Murphy. Chuck Norris is a little bitch compared to him

I’m not too sure what makes a WWII shooter good, but somehow, I’ve played both amazing and horrible games centered around that conflict.  I’m going to do my best not to hash out all the old arguments of why we shouldn’t make them anymore.  The fact that WWII game series have lasted longer than the actual conflict, the gun wank, the crazed gamers that want to kill as many pixelated people as possible.  I want to talk about what makes them good, and hopefully, you can try to discover with me.

I ran through the normal mode of Call of Duty: World At War in roughly five hours. I do not hesitate to say that it is the best game in the entire series, unless you count the multiplayer.  CoD4 is much better for the multiplayer as long as you mute everyone as you step in the door of the game room.

It isn’t about graphics for me at this point.  Other than minor refinement, graphics are as good as they will get until we have three dimensional sex slaves, but even then I imagine we’d be back at banging polygon faces straight from N64.  Think back to playing Goldeneye and you’ll get the idea. As a follow up to Francis’ post about Fallout 3 earlier today, I thought I’d post this important news bulletin.  These people are brilliant.  Take notes people.  I’m pretty sure a zombie apocalypse is probably right around the corner.  Thanks to Geekologie.

Are Violent Video Games Adequately Preparing Children For The Apocalypse?

Is this your future? Scientists say: "Probably not"

I’ve made enough comparisons at this point to Fallout 3 that I suppose I should actually write a review on it. I’ll just give you my stance on it right now: It is easily the best game I have played so far on the Xbox 360.

Granted, I haven’t played much on my 360 so far, nor have I played Fallout 1 or 2, but I’m fairly confident that I won’t find anything better in the 360 backlog, nor will there be a game that surprises me as much as this one did.

I was first introduced when at a friend’s house. He showed me the game on his PC and I was impressed with the combat, the level design and the characters. He told me I should start with at least Fallout 2 before I jump into this new one so I can get a feel for the game… Read the rest of this entry »

Dead SpaceTell you the truth, I’m surprised.  I had heard Dead Space didn’t do as well as EA was hoping, so now I hear there’s a new Dead Space coming for Wii, and it’s not a port of the Xbox/Ps3 game?  This is just…hella awesome!

Dead Space: Extraction is a prequel to the original Dead Space, so the question is how it fits in with the previous prequel DVD, comic book, and online series.  I really enjoyed Dead Space, especially since I was able to finish the game and get the full story.  Any game that gets me creeped out and jumpy is pretty darn awesomeness.  Besides…the only way to kill the bad guys is by DISMEMBERMENT.  Yes, I’ll repeat that.  DISMEMBERMENT.  Sounds prime for Wii, don’t it?

Check out the trailer after the jump because, well, it’s big and it screws up the look of the site.

So, in the weeks leading up to the release of Friday the 13th, you’ve watched all 11 of the original films, purchased the His Name is Jason documentary, and, if you have them, even read the multiple comic series about Jason (an article is coming on those, by the way!).

So what do you do now?  Cuddle up in a ball and cry because no interesting horror flicks come out theatrically for, like…the foreseeable future?

Hell no, you go on Ebay, you find yourself an original Nintendo, and you buy yourself a copy of FRIDAY THE 13th THE NINTENDO GAME!
