Remember Joe’s Comics?  J. Michael Straczynski’s run at Top Cow produced some really great material, including Rising Stars and, especially, Midnight Nation.  Available today is the new printing of the Midnight Nation trade paperback, featuring writing from Straczynski and art from Gary Frank (Superman: Secret Origin).  This is a MUST READ book!  What’s it about?

Midnight Nation is a thought-provoking story with religious overtones about a police officer in limbo who goes on a cross-country search for his soul but encounters some mighty obstacles along the way. When it first came out in 2000, J. Michael Straczynski’s (Superman, Wonder Woman) provocative storytelling and the fantastic art of Gary Frank (Superman: Secret Origin, Supreme Power) captivated readers with its mix of action, horror and drama built around a message of hope, loyalty and sacrifice.

fb2010_ronmarztallIn this week’s interview, we chat with Ron Marz, creator of the crab-mask-wearing Green Lanterm, Kyle Rayner.  Ron is the current writer of Top Cow’s Witchblade, Magdalena, and Velocity.  We talk to him about stuffing women into refrigerators and all those artifacts in the Top Cow-niverse!

It’s an awesome primer we have for Artifacts.  Check it out!

artifacts2Your Funnybooks with Aron and Paulie hosts are super-excited about Top Cow’s upcoming Artifacts crossover, which began with a zero issue released on Free Comic Book Day and continues with Artifacts #1 this July!

The FCBD issue of Artifacts introduced readers to the 13 Artifacts and mythology of the Top Cow Universe, including The Witchblade and The Darkness, two of the company’s longest running titles. Still, if you’re confused after reading the FCBD issue, hankering for more information, or missed out on the book, your friends at Funnybooks and IdeologyofMadness.com are here to help get you caught up on what is sure to be an AWESOME comic book event!

We’re going to introduce you to the 13 Artifacts, and their current bearers (what information is currently known, anyway), talk about comics that are involved in the Artifacts crossover that you may not have even known about, and go over some of the key players in the storyline.  This is going to be the best place to come to get yourself prepared for Artifacts!  And not only that, to help cement some of that information in, in the coming weeks, we’ll be holding contests for some of the best Top Cow has to offer, including trades of Witchblade, Darkness, Tom Judge, and more!

Last week, we told you about The Witchblade

This week’s Artifact:

The Darkness, and its current bearer, Jackie Estacado!

As my buddy (and fellow Funnybooks host) Wayne mentioned earlier today, one of the highlights of this year’s Free Comic Book Day is a “First Look” at Top Cow Comics’ upcoming Artifacts crossover. The crossover, which ties together years of Top Cow continuity, will be written by Ron Marz, with art by some of Top Cow’s finest artists.

Having read the book now, I can say I’m SUPER excited for the upcoming crossover, especially because it brings back, as one of the 13 artifacts, the Rapture, which was the main object of the Universe and Tom Judge: End of Days titles from way back when.  I’d love to see those collected. The Artifacts first look is an original story, with original art, and is a PERFECT primer to the Top Cow Universe.  I highly recommend picking it up this Saturday – after all, what have you got to lose?  It’s FREE!  Plus, you get a preview of Magdalena, which we told you was pretty fantastic in this week’s episode of Funnybooks.

Want a peek at the Artifacts FCBD book, written by Ron Marz with art by Stjepan Sejic?  Look below!  Click any image to see the full page!
