In our fifth and final sandbox episode, Paul joins the crew.  He pitches several character concepts to Tim, Wayne, John and Aron.  There’s quite a bit of mocking.

Podcaster’s note: The first of the Aegean Actual Plays will be released at the end of January/beginning of February.

This time around, we decide on class of starship and name as well as kick around a few storyhooks.  One thing we mis-state all through the episode is the class of starship we settle on.  Excelsior not Excalibur.

Sorry about that.

Podcaster’s note: Star Trek: Aegean is released bi-weekly. Episode 4 will arrive the weekend of November 11.

In our first episode, we decided on the type of game we wanted to play.  This time, we settle on characters.  Tim, Wayne and Jake pitch their Captain concepts while John helps sort them out.  Additionally, the departmental leadership is resolved. After listening to this episode, you will understand why we started calling this series STAR TREK: SHORT BUS.

Podcaster’s note: Star Trek: Aegean is released bi-weekly. Episode 3 will arrive the weekend of October 15.

One last thing, Deep Space Nine is now streaming on Netflix.  That’s pretty flipping cool.

I forget what put me in the mood, but I’ve had a desire burning within me to run a Trek role playing game for awhile.  As a guy who’s GM’d Star Trek for decades, it’s been awhile since I’ve had an active crew.  More than two years.  Longer maybe?

So I put out the call…

Joining the crew are Funnybooks’ Tim and Wayne, Thistledown John and Knights of Reignsborough artist Jake Ekiss.

In this first episode, the guys establish their Star Trek street cred and discuss what they’d like to see in a Star Trek game.

Star Trek: Aegean is sponsored by SausageFest.

andrew-koenig1Andrew Koenig, son of Star Trek’s Walter Koenig (TV’s Chekhov), has gone missing.  He was last seen more than a week ago.  Andrew Koening, who played “Boner” opposite Kirk Cameron on Growing Pains, was visiting friends in Canada and was last seen in the Vancouver area.

Walter Koenig has stated his son suffers from depression.

According to TMZ, Andrew Koenig is  the camera operator on the podcast “Never Not Funny.” Producer-director-writer Lance Miccio, who said he’d worked with Andrew several times, told TMZ that Koenig had passed on a project Miccio had discussed with him two weeks ago, saying he “wasn’t going to work anymore.”

I know you’re thinking what I’m thinking.

Canada.  Missing man.

Put it together.

That’s right…

wrath of contestIn our big Star Trek giveaway from Trek Week 2, we offered the new Star Trek 2-disc special edition DVD and IDW’s prequel comic trade paper back, Star Trek: Countdown.  All you had to do to enter the contest was tell us your recommendation for the Trek sequel.

We had many entries and lots of great suggestions such as following up on the Vulcan refugees who perhaps have fallen victim to Klingon exploitation, a re-imagining of the Gorn, and a stern recommendation to fire the writers. Read the rest of this entry »
