“She stuck a lipstick in her boob and it fell out of her pussy!” Yes, that line is uttered in the 2009 remake of Night of the Demons, a gore-filled comedic type horror film featuring a bevy of recognizable actors, including Monica Keena, Edward Furlong, Tiffany Shepis, and Shannon Elizabeth. In it, a house party goes REALLY bad when dead bodies are found under the house and demons possess the party goers. It plays like Evil Dead 2, but with sex It’s a horror movie that remembers what it’s like to not only be fun, but also to take itself seriously enough to make sure it has smart writing and decent acting. I’ve never seen the original Night of the Demons, but I know it’s something of a cult classic. If it’s anything like the new one, that’s deservedly so. The new Night of the Demons is absolutely the type of horror film that will pick up a devoted following, and lend itself to plenty of party viewing with your friends. There’s tons of crazy sex and nudity, and some outrageous blood and gore. The comparison to Evil Dead 2 seems entirely appropriate, as the film really does borrow some of its visual flair from the Raimi classic, but this flick is definitely dirtier with some absolutely gross out moments (nipple tentacles!) that are more fun than unsettling. I can’t imagine there’s a better recipe for a good horror film than humor, hot chicks, and gore, but there are plenty....

Hello there, boils and ghouls! It’s time for another very exciting edition of PAUL’S HORROR FLIX! Two very different horror films this week, as we delve into both the supernatural and the extraterrestrial with: The Fourth Kind The Reeds Are either one of these flicks worth your time? Will they keep you up at night, looking past your bedroom door for ghosts and aliens? Find out in my full reviews after the jump! The Fourth Kind I’m not entirely sure why I didn’t see The Fourth Kind in theaters. It looked interesting enough, and has a decent cast, but I think maybe I was a little burned out on “pseudo-reality” flicks after Paranormal Activity (which I loved) was all over the place. I’m not sure Kind was in the theaters very long, and what I did hear about it was relatively lukewarm, if not downright negative. Ultimately, my review isn’t going to dissent what I’ve already heard. The Fourth Kind isn’t a horrible film, but it sure isn’t great. The actors do serviceable jobs, but the main concept of the film, basically that Hollywood actors are reenacting real-life events, interspersed with some of the “real” footage, is interesting, if not entirely well done. While I appreciate the subtlety of the quick glimpses given us of what is happening before all video footage, essentially, turns to static, it’s just a little too subtle. I do appreciate subtlety, and I can appreciate a slow burn, but there should be a bit more....

Welcome back, boils and ghouls, to a very special edition of PAUL’S HORROR FLIX! What’s so special with this week’s edition? Well, how about the sequels to two of the greatest horror films OF ALL TIME? Yes folks, this week we’re talking about the much anticipated sequels: Rec 2 The Descent: Part 2 How do you make sequels to some of the most intense horror films ever? Do either of these films live up to the originals? Or they ruin the memories of the films we’ve come to love? Find out after the jump! Rec 2 REC 2 – English Subtitled Trailer Uploaded by dreadcentral. – Classic TV and last night’s shows, online. I love the original Rec. It took two things that I’ve been sick of for a little while now, zombies and “found footage” movies, and combined them to make what ended up being an intense, excellent film that hasn’t seen compare since its release. So when word came out that the original creators (and some of the original cast) were reuniting to create a sequel, I met it with nervous anticipation. I mean, surely it would be great, right? But how do you top the excellent original? One thing that always bugged me in trailers for the American remake of the original, Quarantine, is that they showed a scene not in the film itself – a SWAT-type team going into the apartment building and finding the video camera with the “found footage” that made up the movie. ....

So a very special edition of Paul’s Horror Flix today! Since I’m out of town (more on that on this week’s Funnybooks) this week, I’ve been unable to enjoy my typical horror movie goodness. I know – ghastly! But, alas, hotel wi-fi has afforded me the opportunity enough to cruise the net, spying on the newest horror trailers for all the monster-filled goodness coming our way! Tons of great trailers after the jump (with my thoughts), including a sneak peak at the new, very awesome-looking, Predators from Robert Rodriguez! I love Robert Rodriguez, so I’m really excited about this film. I know he’s just producing it (directing duties fall on Nimrod Antal from Vacancy), but it seems like the film will have his hands all over it. The full trailer is due out tomorrow (at the official site – guessing the trailer will be attached to Repo Men), but check out a sneak preview below: The new Nightmare on Elm Street looks visually interesting – the trick is making a character as iconic, but at the same time kind of passe, as Freddy Kruger, and make him appealing to a modern day audience. I’m sure some changes have been made to the script I read (and talked about way back in April of last year) including, at least as far as I can tell, an expansion on the role of Twilight’s Kellan Lutz. Will it be a boom or a bust? I recently saw Rec 2, and will be back....

Welcome back, boils and ghouls, to a very special edition of PAUL’S HORROR FLIX! This week, you won’t have to venture to your local video store, or Amazon (or try to import something) to find the movies we’ll be chatting about – you just need to go to your local cinema! That’s right, we’re discussing theatrical horror this week, with two very different, but still very horrific, movies! The Wolfman The Crazies Check out the reviews after the jump, and start saving up money for the matinee! The Wolfman Man, I’ve been dying to see this film. Back in October, I visited Universal Studios Orlando’s The Wolfman haunted house, as part of their Halloween Horror Nights event. It was one of my favorite houses of the event, and had be super psyched for this film, which has been the victim of many well-publicized delays and troubles. The director hat changed multiple times, as did the score writer for the film (Danny Elfman, then not, then back to Danny Elfman), as well as delays for effects work and heavy editing to get to the first wolf transformation as soon as possible. I’d be lying if I said that all of these problems had no effect on the film – the film has HUGE flaws. The pacing is definitely off – it races through certain scenes, and dead stops in others. The acting is uneven. Certain moments just reek of being cut down to fit a running time. However, despite all of....

Hello there boils and ghouls! It’s time for another wild and wacky version of PAUL’S MOTHER FRAKIN HORROR FLICKS! Hell to the yes! The excitement is boiling over isn’t it? You’re just sitting there, laptop on the sink as you wait for the body in your bathtub to be eaten away by the battery acid, just DYING to know what movies we’re going to talk about this week. Well, horror hounds, wonder no more, for today you get THREE horror reviews, of classic (coughmostlyshittycough) 80′s horror madness! Madman The Funhouse Happy Birthday to Me! What are you waiting for? A demonic incantation? Continue reading after the jump! Madman So, really, Madman is entirely nothing special. In fact, the good portion of it is laughably bad. But, unlike a later laughably bad film that just ends up being awful, this one ends up having a certain charm to it. From 1982, Madman tells the story of “Madman Marz,” a backwoods humungo redneck killer who has a thing for chopping up 30-something people who play teenagers. This movie ends up getting its charm from some wicked bad, definitely 80′s choices. There’s a hot tub scene that involves a man and a woman wandering in circles aimlessly, looking at each other longingly, while 80′s love songs play in the background. There’s a guy who has his initials on his giant ass belt buckle. There’s a guy who gets lost at the beginning of the movie in the woods (after seeing the Madman in....

Another week, another all-new, all-awesome edition of PAUL’S HORROR FLIX! As promised, I’m back with a double dose of horror this week, and I decided to step up my game a little bit – sure, last week’s Demonic Toys 2 and Road to L had a small droplet of the red stuff, but this week’s contenders poured on ample amounts of what we like to see in our horror flicks – chunky, gooey, dripping blood and guts! The two contenders this week are Cabin Fever: The Director’s Cut, out now on blu-ray, and Doghouse (currently only available on import DVD). How do they measure up? Find out after the jump! Cabin Fever: The Director’s Cut I love the hell out of Eli Roth – he’s only directed three full-length films, but I’ve loved each one for very different reasons. Cabin Fever, the film that introduced him to the world at large, is a fun low budget romp that was better than it had any right being. Hostel I and II divided audiences, and unfortunately really contributed to the “torture porn” craze, but managed to elevate themselves above the rest with smart direction, good acting, and beautiful cinematography that most other films exchange for flashes of white light and quick cuts. Anyway, like I said, Cabin Fever is the start of Roth’s career and I remember seeing it in the theater, wholly unprepared for the film I was about to see. It starts off as this fun, riotous comedy before quickly....

Yes folks, after a brief hiatus (our winter finale was on December 29th…heh), we bring you the new season of PAUL’S HORROR FLIX! What’s changed this time around? Well, how about a weekly column (every Wednesday) where you get not one, but TWO horror reviews every week! Check in every Wednesday for your weekly dose of horror goodness! Today’s contenders? Demonic Toys 2, the newest film from Full Moon Studios and the sequel to the original cult classic from the 90′s (with Tracy Scoggins), and Road to L, a mysterious, very hard to find Lovecraftian movie that’s garnered critical acclaim from other sites. Reviews after the jump! Demonic Toys 2 I do love Full Moon Studios films, but I’ll be the first to admit that, for every diamond in the rough they put out, there’s a piece of crap. I loved Gingerdead Man, but the sequel was crap. Skull Heads (review) was good, but Evil Bong 1 & 2 were pretty stupid. I recently re-watched the original Demonic Toys, made during the prime of Full Moon Studios, when the films were in a shared universe (Dollman vs. Demonic Toys) and movies were coming out, at least, once every other month. It was kind of the golden age of Full Moon, and the start of a lot of careers. The original Demonic Toys had Tracy Scoggins as a cop who came across a warehouse where these evil toys were trying to unleash monsters from hell. It was silly, of course, but....

After hitting critical success with their film Undead, The Spierig Brothers were given not only more money to play with, but an all-star Hollywood cast to fill their toy box. The result? Daybreakers, a semi-apocalyptic vampire flick that tells the story of a world where humans are an endangered species, and the world’s vampire population needs to come up with a way to either come up with more blood sometime soon, or a cure to their vampirism. Daybreakers was released theatrically this past Friday nationwide, and stars Ethan Hawke, Sam Neill, and Willem Dafoe. Check out my review after the jump! Daybreakers is definitely an example of the visual flair that the Spierig Brothers have become known for – you get a mix of guys like Michael Bay, The Wachowski Brothers, Zach Snyder, and even a little Sam Raimi thrown in for good measure. While this leads to a 90% excellent looking movie, you also, unfortunately, get the excesses that all of those directors are known for. I found myself giggling at a couple of the melodramatic scenes, filled with loud, booming heroic music, beautiful sunsets with sillouetted characters walking towards it. Still, despite a bit of the feeling of being overdone, the film is definitely beautiful and, if not seen theatrically, certainly Blu-Ray worthy. When you get past the visual flair though, you also get a pretty gripping story that, while not entirely original, is certainly interesting enough to keep you entertained. I’ve never been a huge fan of....

Yes folks, Van Damme has returned for a rematch with none other than Dolph Lundgren, and UFC Heavyweight Andrei Arlovski along to help in the ass kickery! There’ve been many talks about “going back to the well” long after it’s dry, but recent attempts (like Rocky Balboa and Rambo) by aging action superstars have proved surprisingly good, and Van Damme’s recent JCVD, while overrated, was worth the watch. Of course, now we’re talking about Univeral Soldier, a franchise which, really, was never that good. The original is definitely a guilty pleasure, followed by some JCVD-less straight to video sequels (which I never saw), and an abysmal theatrical sequel with Bill Goldberg. Universal Soldier: Regeneration is due out February 2nd on DVD and Blu-Ray, and features the return of both Van Damme and original villain Dolph Lundgren, under the direction of John Hyams, son of Peter Hyams (The Relic, End of Days). Does Regeneration capture the guilty pleasure aspect that made the original so enjoyable? Find out after the jump! Universal Soldier: Regeneration has about as much story as a 1990′s video game. I can pretty much wrap up the entire movie in the following three sentences. Terrorists take over a nuclear facility. Government reactivates Van Damme. Van Damme kills everybody and movie is over. Seriously – that’s about as complicated as the movie’s storyline gets. While I was absolutely impressed at the action sequences in Regeneration, the lack of a storyline makes this purely DVD fare. There is no reference....

2009 wasn’t the greatest year for movies. Highly anticipated flicks didn’t match expectations, and the hype engine managed to overhype a ton of mediocre flicks (I’m looking at you, Drag Me to Hell and Laid to Rest). Still, if you looked hard enough, you would definitely find some diamonds in the rough, and it’s a true testament to the quality of Hollywood when you’ll notice that half of my top 10 films of the year…were either not released in theaters at all, or were given a very limited release. Just to set the record straight before we start, films I haven’t seen as of this writing that probably would have made the list are: Sherlock Holmes, Avatar, District 9, Moon, Fantastic Mr. Fox Now, let’s get started! 25. Terminator Salvation Though Terminator Salvation definitely wasn’t the film we were all hoping it was, which I thing influenced a lot of undue hatred for it, it’s actually still a good flick. McG didn’t ruin the franchise – if anything, he should be commended for trying something new. I mean, how do you follow up the apocalyptic ending of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines? Terminator Salvation is a great looking film and, despite being flawed, which I think actually comes more from heavy tinkering in post-production than anything else, a darn good flick. Review here. 24. Blood Creek What’s that, you say? Blood Creek? What the hell is that? Don’t worry if you’ve never heard of Blood Creek. It was only....

I really enjoyed the first Phobia (aka 4bia) , a 2008 Thai anthology horror film featuring the work of some of the most popular Thai horror film directors. It had some great ideas, but seemed to suffer from pretty poor special effects and uneven storytelling. Phobia 2, which actually features five stories, improves on the first film in every way. The special effects are not only better, they’re actually really good. The stories are consistently good across the board, and they all actually have a decent amount of scares to them. My full review after the jump! Unlike the first movie, in which the films all had some kind of connecting thread (though it was minimal), each story in Phobia 2 stands completely on its own and pretty much can’t take place in the same universe, it only makes sense to review each piece separately. Novice Fourteen year-old Pey committed a crime, so his mom decides to hide him in a Buddhist monastery to escape punishment. However, something deep down inside is bothering him. Will Pey’s Karma catch up with him? This story started off a little slowly, but once things picked up, boy, it gave me goosebumps. The creature of the piece is incredibly creepy, and the sound effects really add to the scare factor. The ending of the story falls a bit flat, though. Still, this was a great way to start the film off and stands as the longest of the stories, at a full half hour....

Remember when we leaked to those semi-nude photos of Megan Fox way back when, and how much we were looking forward to Jennifer’s Body because of said photos? Man…none of that was in the movie. Not that that was the only thing missing in Jennifer’s Body. However, had that scene been as revealing as those photos, the film would have at least jumped up a notch in the awesomeness scale. As it is though, Jennifer’s Body fails at what it sets out to you. What does it try to do? Well, by the impression I got from watching it, the cast and crew thought they were making the next Scream, with Diablo Cody playing the part of Kevin Williamson. What they got was more Cursed than Scream. Full review after the jump! In Jennifer’s Body, Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried are best friends…kinda. Jennifer (Fox) is kind of mean to her friend and really kind of a bitch. Needy (Seyfried) might have lesbian feelings for her friend. They go see a band in concert at a local hole in the wall, and Jennifer falls for the lead singer … of course she doesn’t know he’s a satanist in need of a virgin sacrifice! Problem is, Jennifer’s not a virgin, and when you try to sacrifice a non-virgin…well, you end up creating a monster. Not that anybody expected great things from Jennifer’s Body. After all, this is the same woman who wrote the annoyingly mediocre Juno, and it starred Megan Fox. ....

During the month of December, I thought I would brave the task of trying to watch as many Christmas-themed horror movies as I could get my hands on. Not as easy task, mind you, as I can think of only one Christmas horror flick that people actually like (the original Black Christmas). Still, there’s gotta be some diamonds in the rough, right? Guess we’ll find out. I started my search for good Christmas horror with a film that most undoubtedly was sure to suck – Santa’s Slay, with BILL GOLDBERG (yes, the wrestler) playing Santa! Read my review after the jump! I almost had hope for half a second when Santa’s Slay started. Seated around a dinner table enjoying a Christmas Eve meal were Fran Drescher, Chris Kattan, Rebecca Gayheart, and James frickin’ Caan! I mean, most of them aren’t the most talented people on the planet, but at least they were kind of “names,” you know? My hope was quickly dashed, even quicker than the family was dispatched by Goldberg Santa in one of the most ludicrous scenes set to celluloid. See, in Santa’s Slay, Santa is actually the son of Satan. A thousand years ago, he lost a deal with an angel, and the angel made it so that Santa had to be good for 1000 years, the giver of toys and happiness. Well, the thousand years is over (heh … that was a Millennium quote) and now Santa’s back to his bad ass self, going to strip....

From Christopher Smith, director of Creep (which I haven’t seen) and Severance (which I saw and mostly enjoyed) comes probably his biggest effort as a writer/director, Triangle. A mystery/suspense in the vein of films of Crono Crimenes and even with a hint of Lost to it, Severance is definitely the type of film you can’t watch while messing with your laptop or doing other things, as you’re liable to miss some of the important key elements on which the film heavily relies. Check out my full review after the jump! Melissa George stars as Jess in Triangle, a damaged woman with an autistic son who is invited to go with her friends on a sailboat excursion for the day. She’s out of it, though, and possibly a little off her rocker. No one seems to like her, and there’s definitely something wrong with her head. The poster for the movie gives a bit too much away, I think, and I even hesitated to put it here, but figured that you’ll have figured that little twist out less than twenty minutes into the movie. Luckily, it’s not the only twist. When Jess and her friends are stuck in the middle of a freak storm, they are saved by an abandoned ocean liner. At first, you may be thinking Ghost Ship, but the film takes a different turn as the ship turns out to not be quite as deserted as you may think. I enjoyed Triangle quite a bit. The production values....

The Skeptic kind of reminded me of that movie Dragonfly. It’s creepy, and has some relatively good scares, but the ghost itself isn’t out to hurt anybody, or kill people Grudge style. That’s not really a spoiler for you out there thinking I just ruined everything – the film resides almost entirely on Tim Daly as its sole character, so you know if he dies, the movie’s over. In The Skeptic, Tim Daly’s aunt has just died, so he moves into her house to take some time away from his wife. But the house may be haunted, which is something that a skeptic (oh…so that’s why it’s called that!) isn’t having an easy time accepting. Then he finds out that his aunt may have been experiencing the same things in the house – but is it due to a family history of mental illness, or because the house is actually haunted? The Skeptic is actually a really good DTV entry in the haunted house genre. The acting is definitely above average (even with Tom Arnold in it!), especially from Tim Daly (Superman’s voice in the animated series), which is good, because the entire film rests on his performance. He does a really stand-up job though, and confidentally carries it. There are some genuinely creepy moments, and actually some scenes that will give you goosebumps. In addition, there’s actually a good “is he crazy or isn’t he?’ vibe to the film. If you like a slow burn kind of horror film,....

You know what I’m always saying about over-hyped films? Why the hell do people like this film so much? I mean, for the first hour, literally NOTHING happens. It’s not creepy, it’s not foreboding, there’s nothing really going on other than watching the babysitter run around the house. I appreciate the call backs to classic 70′s horror in the opening credits and the film’s score, but, seriously, Babysitter Wanted was a millions time better than this. And I like this film’s director, Ti West, quite a bit. Don’t get me wrong, I’m huge fan of the “slow burn” type of horror film. No one is as patient as me when it comes to that kind of stuff. But damn…this film wasn’t burning, it wasn’t even simmering – there was just nothing happening. And then, when something does happen, it’s so over-the-top, it doesn’t even feel like we’re watching the same movie. I know it sounds like I’m being unfair on the film, but I was really looking forward to this. Like I said, I love director Ti West (his The Roost is not only a good film, it’s inspiring for amateur filmmakers), but this film just was not working for me. In the film, Samantha is in dire need of money and ends up responding to an ad for a babysitting job. She shows up at the house, where a creepy old couple (Tom Noonan amd Mary Woronov) let her know that the babysitting job isn’t so much for a....

Scary Madison Productions. Just those words should kind of scare you – the combination of Adam Sandler and horror films has wielded an unholy union of direct to DVD horror. But, sadly, that’s the scariest thing about the film. Because The Shortcut isn’t really scary or funny, despite attempts at being both. Full review after the jump. So, in The Shortcut, two brothers new in town are trying to get acclimated to their new surroundings, but the younger brother comes home one day after being threatened by a crazy old man on the way home from school one day. As it turns out, the crazy old man may be responsible for a rash of missing dogs in the area. So one night (like over halfway into the damn movie), the older brother and some of his friends decide to sneak into the old man’s house to find out what’s really going on and what, if any, urban legends are true. The thing about The Shortcut is that it’s (mostly) competently made and acted. The actors all put in a pretty decent job, and, visually, the film may not be blu-ray material, but is certainly a higher quality DTV. However, the fault in the film lies in the fact that…well, it’s just not scary. Nothing really happens until the last 15/20 minutes of the film and, even then, the payoff is certainly not worth it. Despite some (poorly executed) gory bits when things (finally) happen, the film could have been a....

Long story short, The Cottage is a great horror/comedy that fans of films like Shaun of the Dead, Severance, and Evil Dead really need to say. Hell, any horror fans in general will find a lot to enjoy in this film, with its quirky humor, plentiful gore, and fun storyline. Full review after the jump! In The Cottage, Andy Serkis and Reece Shearsmith play two awful kidnappers who kidnap the daughter of a gangster (Jennifer Ellison – DAMN!) in an effort to get money that they can use to buy a boat and retire. However, the gangster, onto their plan, sends some Chinese hit-men to take them out. Doesn’t really sound scary yet, does it? Well, when the sh*t hits the fan about halfway into the film, it doesn’t let go as the kidnappers (and kidnapped) come across an abandoned farm…that may not be so abandoned. Imagine the very-American Wrong Turn made by a bunch of crazy Brits with dark senses of humor, and you might have a good idea of what you’re in store for with The Cottage. Andy Serkis, finally playing something other than CG characters (and no, I don’t count his Popeye-esque role as the ship’s captain in King Kong), does an excellent job, as do the rest of the cast. They manage to make you laugh while all of these horrible things are happening to them. This is a horror comedy that gets it right – there’s tons of great humor, but the film never lets....

I came home yesterday from work to find a nice big envelope waiting for me. I picked it up and looked at it oddly – I hadn’t ordered anything. I felt around the package a little bit – there was a DVD in it. A DVD from Full Moon Features? Could it be? I tore open the envelope and looked inside… Hell to the yes! I’ve been looking forward to this movie ever since it was announced, and knew, the second I had it in my grubby little hands, there was no way I was going through this weekend without seeing it! So I popped the flick in my DVD player, kicked my feet up, and got myself ready for Charles Band’s newest film…SKULL HEADS! Review after the jump! So what’s Skull Heads about? Well, despite what you may think, it’s not really like another Puppet Master/Demonic Toys, but more like the movie Dangerous Worry Dolls, where the dolls/creatures don’t really kill people throughout the film and kind of drive the story, but moreso that they are an element to the story, which focuses on weird people doing weird things. In Skull Heads, the story focuses on a hermit family – they don’t venture out of their castle, and they don’t like interaction with the outside world. The film starts with the father strapping his daughter (the yummy Robin Sydney) to a torture room table to punish her for having a cell phone. See, this damn kid wants to communicate....

Much has been said about the American remakes of Asian horror films – typically, they’re not as good or people are just sick of seeing the same thing over again, and, of course, there’s the whole “there’s no more original ideas in Hollywood” argument. But little is said of the reverse – as much as Asian Horror inspires American horror, so does American horror inspire Asian Horror! In recent years, overseas (and not just in Asian countries), we’ve seen a plethora of American-style slasher films, including, most notably, films like Cold Prey 1 and 2 and Frontier(s). Just as the “torture porn” style of American films is on its dying breath, it’s begun invading shores overseas. In France, we’ve seen films such as Inside and Martyrs (review), and in Asian countries, we’re now seeing films like the Japanese Grotesque and the Taiwanese Invitation Only. While Grotesque has disgusted people for it’s vile nature and emphasis on uncomfortable gore over story, Invitation Only takes another route – it almost literally is a Taiwan-based version of the movie Hostel, with similar humor, scenes, and a resolution. More after the jump! Ordinary young men and women often dream of the unreachable life of the world’s idle rich. Wade, Richard, Hitomi, Holly and Lin certainly do. They have all received an invitation to an exclusive party held by a group of rich & famous people, obviously addressed to them by mistake. But all the same, they attend. It is the best party ever, a wishing game....

I promised 31 horror movie reviews as part of Pauloween Horror Nights – here’s #1! The announcement of two sequels in the Ju-On franchise worried some people, I think. After all, the last couple of films in both the Japanese franchise and the American franchise it inspired, The Grudge, left much to be desired (so much so that The Grudge 3 wasn’t even released in theaters). Were people finally tired of thin, long black-haired Asian women who burp to scare them? Well, then they announced that not only one, but TWO sequels were coming to the popular franchise, Shiroi Roujo (Old Lady in White) and Kuroi Shoujo (Girl in Black). There were quite a few questions surrounding the sequels – two sequels simulatenously? Would they be two parts of one movie? Would they be feature length? Well, I still haven’t seen Kuroi Shoujo, but to answer the final question, Shiroi Roujo is a 60-minute long film. It’s like a made-for-cable TV show, essentially, and filmed with similar production values. Don’t expect any of the fancy camera work or expensive special effects – this is a low budget Ju-On film. In fact, it really does feel (save for some violence), as if it was made for television. Unfortunately, one of the first things to go in the budget cuts were the scare factor. Whereas my wife refuses to see any of The Grudge movies because the first one scared her so bad, this film has a ghost, and it does kill....

I tell ya…sometimes, they really do get it better overseas than we do here. Don’t get me wrong, I loves me some good ol’ US of A, but when it comes to horror, you can’t really beat some of the great stuff being released in England, or in Spain, or Korea. Case in point? Imago Mortis, from Italian director Stefano Bessoni. Released already in Italy with an upcoming release in Spain, there’s still no US release date set, sadly. Starring Geraldine Chaplin, Imago Mortis tells a pretty gruesome tale: They say that in the 1600s, long before the invention of photography, a scientist named Girolamo Fumagalli was obsessed with the idea of reproducing images. He discovered that by killing a victim and removing the victim’s eyeballs, it was possible to reproduce on paper the last image imprinted on that person’s retinas. He named this technique ‘thanatography’. Today, the same kind of gruesome ritual and abominable crime recurs within the walls of an international school of cinema. How can that premise not be cool? Especially when paired with this excellent trailer, and the poster above (courtesy of Aullidos)? Keep an eye on IoM for more US release information (or a review if I can get my hands on an import disc) as soon as we can get it to you!
