fb2010_davidpetersentallDavid Petersen, the immensely talented “arter/writist” of Mouse Guard, joins Aron, Paul, and Wayne for an depth conversation of such mousey goodness that it can barely be contained by mere digital media.  Subjects ranging from Petersen’s all-new Legends of the Guard, why the books are “that shape,”  The Mouse Guard Role Playing Game, Mouse Guard: The Motion Picture, and even Mouse Guard crossovers.

It’s crazy awesome and it’s all right here.

Watch out for weasels.

FCBDcoverThis week, on his official blog, David Petersen, the creator of the super awesome Mouse Guard comic series (who we talked with way back when), revealed a first look at Archaia’s Free Comic Book Day book for May 1, 2010 (I’m surprised it’s not May 8th, the day after Iron Man 2 is released).

Archaia will be releasing a Free Comic Book day ‘flip’ book that features a new Mouse Guard story from me and a Fraggle Rock story and cover on the other side. Here is my cover for the Mouse Guard side of the issue. The white box is for comic retailers to stamp or label their logo/address in hopes to attract new readership to comics to their store. The story I’m doing will be 10 pages and will take place in Spring 1153 (as an homage to everyone who asks when ‘Spring’ is coming in the book series)

We’re HUGE fans of Petersen and his Mouse Guard series, and a Fraggle Rock comic too?  Hell to the yes!  Sign me up!

This news will make a lot of our readers very happy.

Announced officially at the Diamond Retailers Summit (and talked about previously in our interview with writer/creator/artist Dave Petersen), Archaia’s Mouse Guard: Legends of the Guard is a four-issue anthology mini-series coming from Archaia in which creators handpicked by Petersen are given a chance to explore the world of Mouse Guard.

legend of the guard

The four-issue mini will debut in Spring of 2010, and allow Petersen to begin work and get ahead of deadlines for The Black Axe, the prequel to the current Mouse Guard continuity (you really should know all this already from our awesome interview). Mouse Guard: Legends of the Guard will alternately ship with issues of the main six-issue The Black Axe.  While not all stories in Legends will be canon, they will surely all kick butt.

You know what this sounds like to me?  A reason to do MICE WITH WEAPONS WEEK II!

Mouse Guard: Winter 1152 #6

Mouse Guard: Winter 1152 #6

It’s winter of the year 1152.  The season has been a tough one, and the town of Lockhaven is running dangerously short on food and supplies.  A small team of elite soldiers serving as diplomats (Saxon, Kenzie, Lieam, and Sadie, led by Celanawe) make their way through the snow blanketed territories to improve relations between cities and the Guard, and to try to find food and supplies. This is a winter not every Guard may survive.

Mouse Guard is an Eisner-Award winning tale of a mouse-filled world of intrigue, war, tragedy, and friendship.  From the official site,

The mice struggle to live safely and prosper among all of the world’s harsh conditions and predators. Thus the Mouse Guard was formed. After persevering against a weasel warlord in the winter war of 1149, the territories are no longer as troubled. True, the day to day dangers exist, but no longer are the Guard soldiers, instead they are escorts, pathfinders, weather watchers, scouts and body guards for the mice who live among the territories. Many skills are necessary for the guard to keep the borders safe. They must find new safeways and paths from village to village, lead shipments of goods from one town to another and, in case of attack, guard against all evil and harm to their territories.

‘Hail all those who are able, any mouse can, any mouse will, but the Guard prevail’

Mouse Guard is written and illustrated by David Petersen and, with the final issue of the second Mouse Guard miniseries, Winter 1152, hitting stands soon, we had a sit-down to see what else was in store for the Guard!  Check out part one of our awesome two part interview after the jump!

Mouse Guard: Role Playing Game

Wow…the response to our Mouse Guard Role Playing Game contest was amazing!  You guys really came up with some wonderful ideas – so wonderful, in fact, that I’m really debating if one prize was indeed enough.  After all, everyone put on their creative hats and really did a spectacular job with new characters.  Alas, there had to be a winner, and you can find out who it is after the jump!

I’ve been batting around an idea for our new contest for a while now.  I mean, after our Batman, Final Crisis, and Resident Evil contests, what comes next?  Well, I’ve decided to do something that combines the interests of your two main IoM correspondents.  Aron loves Role Playing.  I love mice with weapons.  What does that leave us with?

Mouse Guard: The Role Playing Game

Hell to the yes!  Read after the jump to see how to win this bad boy!
