fb2010_ronmarztallIn this week’s interview, we chat with Ron Marz, creator of the crab-mask-wearing Green Lanterm, Kyle Rayner.  Ron is the current writer of Top Cow’s Witchblade, Magdalena, and Velocity.  We talk to him about stuffing women into refrigerators and all those artifacts in the Top Cow-niverse!

It’s an awesome primer we have for Artifacts.  Check it out!

…because it’s sold out!  Surely it happened because we gave it such a positive review in a recent episode of Funnybooks.  Congrats to Ron Marz and Top Cow – this book definitely deserves to be a hit.  Plus, I hear that it’s ongoing now, not just a mini series.  Good news for all.

MAGDALENA #1 SOLD OUT

Magdalena #2 In Stores on June 9th

LOS ANGELES, Calif., May 25, 2010 – Top Cow Productions, Inc. proudly announced today that the first issue of the Magdalena series has sold out at the distributor level, and the Magdalena #2 will arrive in stores on June 9th.

Written by Ron Marz (Witchblade, Magdalena) and featuring the art team from Pilot Season: Murderer, Nelson Blake II, Sal Regla and Dave McCaig, the Magdalena series follows the Magdalena who has been the official protector and warrior of the Catholic Church for over two thousand years, sworn to defend the Faith with the Spear of Destiny against all manner of supernatural threats. However, Patience, the latest Magdalena, has seen through the hypocrisy of her masters and struck out on her own.

“I’ve been saying that Magdalena was a book that I’ve literally been waiting five years to write. I’m really, really happy that so many people thought it was worth the wait,” Marz said. “Truthfully, as proud of issue #1 as Nelson and I and the rest of the creative team are, it’s just the appetizer for what we’re serving up in this first story arc. I hope everybody comes back for issue #2 and beyond.”

Magdalena #2 finds Patience and her mentor Kristof fighting for their lives as they follow the trail of a demonic cult with a child at its head. Even if she survives the cultists in her way, Patience must decide if the Church is merely luring her back like a lamb to the slaughter. Magdalena #2 features a cover by Ryan Sook (Wednesday Comics).

To support the release of issue #2, Top Cow will also be making Magdalena #1 available for purchase through their digital distribution partners online.

“Just at the first glance, it’s clear that the universe of the Magdalena is fast, fluid, and packs a real punch,” said Newsarama.

“This book surprised me more than anything else I’ve read in a long time,” said Comic Vine.

“Ron Marz is the master manipulator of the Top Cow universe with his work including this new series,” said Graphic Policy.

“Nelson Blake II is a magician, and his wand is a pencil,” said Broken Frontier.

Keep an eye out on the site for our interview with Ron Marz later this week!

Coming soon from director Sam Raimi!

So you don’t have to read three paragraphs of how great AICN is before you get to the actual paragraph of news, we’re here to tell you that none other than SAM RAIMI will be directing the upcoming World of Warcraft movie!  Will this come to fruition, or fizzle out like so many other movie tales?  That remains to be seen.  I’ve not been too kind on Raimi’s output these past couple of years, but I think him doing a WoW movie would certainly be pretty damn interesting.  I’m not too familiar with WoW, despite my want to me.  Just a lack of time and the hope that one day, that DC MMO will finally come out and take what little free time I have left.

As for the other news?  Ryuhei Kitamura, who directed Midnight Meat Train (and did quite an excellent job) will be directing the big screen adaptation of Magdalena, based on the Top Cow comic book, and starring Jenna Dewan, who recently married the guy playing Duke in the G.I. Joe movie.  For those unfamiliar with the comic, the Magdalena is a descendant of the big JC and Mary Magdalene who pretty much kicks demon/vampire booty for the lord!  Oh yeah, Luke Goss is supposed to be in the flick too.

Expect more news as ComicCon ramps up tomorrow.  Speaking of which, SuperHeroHype has some pretty sweet SDCC floor pics here.  Check ‘em out!
