Don’t forget about our Blackest Night Give-a-way!  The contest ends on Friday, April 23rd!  And coming May 3rd, Free Funnybook Day… a day-long event with prizes awarded hourly.  Stay tuned!

fb2010_jurgensWell, we talked to Dan Jurgens earlier this week (check out our awesome interview here) to coincide with the release of his final issue of Booster Gold, #31.  As it turns out, as teased in our interview, that final issue hinted at many great things to come and, Thursday morning, DC Nation dropped the big news.

TIME MASTERS: VANISHING POINT starts this July, and ties directly into The Return of Bruce Wayne, featuring Rip Hunter, Booster Gold, Superman, and Green Lantern traveling through time trying to find their friend.  The six-issue mini will be written and drawn by Jurgens and, as you’ll find out exclusively on our podcast, The Return of Bruce  Wayne isn’t the only series that Time Masters will tie into.  What’s the big DC event coming that the series is leading directly into?

Find out by listening below!

Man, I am super excited about the upcoming Johns/Manapul relaunch of The Flash¸starting this April.  And it looks like DC is too – they’re sending out tons of awesome preview art that really make this book look like a Flash we’ve never seen before.  One thing we’ve been complaining about in books like Flash: Rebirth is that we don’t get that sense of speed that we should from a character like ol’ Barry Allen.  Well, as the sketches below illustrate, Manapul’s looking very hard into correcting that.

Preview images:

Flash Fact: Some of the preview art above actually comes from The Flash: Secret Files and Origins, which is due out 3/24, and will feature Flash art by Manapul and Scott Kolins!

Also coming is a chance, from DC, to win a signed copy of the first issue, if you’re a Twitter follower!

Starting 4/7 and continuing during the week leading up to the release of THE FLASH #1, DC NATION’s Twitter account will be asking one Flash-related question a day. The first five Flash fans who correctly answer the question will be eligible to win a signed copy of one of DC’s biggest new launches of 2010. Think you’re an expert in all things Flash? Well, get ready to have your Scarlet Speedster knowledge tested, pal. Not only will I be bringing my years of Flash fandom to the task at hand, but I’ve enlisted the writer of THE FLASH himself, Mr. Geoff Johns to help me in crafting questions that will be far from simple.

We’ll announce all the legal goodies and rules on 4/7, the day before the contest actually launches. In the meantime, you can prep for the fun by signing up for a Twitter account if you don’t have one. Once that’s done, take a moment to start following DC NATION, THE FLASH writer Geoff Johns and artist Francis Manapul.

Screw you Marvel!

That’s what DC is saying about Marvel’s recent “trade in your Blackest Night ring comics and get a Deadpool Siege variant” promotion, because they are now offering ANOTHER ring promotion…and you know what?  This one’s even cooler!

As you can see at right DC’s new BRIGHTEST DAY rings, starting with the The Flash and Green Lantern rings that will be available with The Flash #1 and Green Lantern #53, respectively.  I’m not sure the GL ring is any different than the previous one, but man…I needs me that Flash ring!

Not entirely sure there are other characters who will be getting a ring treatment – a Batring may seem a little weird, and while I’d love to get a free batarang or batbelt with my Batbook purchase, I don’t see that as likely.  Unless more characters will be wearing rings post-Blackest Night?  We shall see!

The news rolled out every couple of hours at DC’s The Source Blog today, with nothing but awesome BRIGHTEST DAY related goodies!

In addition to this morning’s BRIGHTEST DAY announcement, DC’s starting off a week of announcements with even more BRIGHTEST DAY news, including the revelation that, in addition to being a 26-issue bi-weekly series, there will be a BRIGHTEST DAY banner on some of DC’s new and ongoing series, letting readers know that they’re key to the BRIGHTEST DAY story.

Sounds kind of like the Dark Reign banner that Marvel put on its books post-Secret Invasion (and I’d imagine a similar banner on titles post-SIEGE).  Among the titles will obviously be Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps, but also Geoff Johns’ THE FLASH will bear the banner when it starts in May!

TITANs will also feature the BRIGHTEST DAY banner, and will be taken over by Eric Wallace and Fabrizio Fiorentino, the team from Final Crisis: Ink.  The new leader of the Titans?  Deathstroke, the Terminator!  The Tattooed Man and Cheshire will also be part of the team.  I’m a bit confused as to how this fits under the TITANS banner, given that the whole purpose of the title was to reunite the original Teen Titans.  Wouldn’t a new team be better suited in a new book?

JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA, which sees a new roster this month, will already be seeing changed when the BRIGHTEST DAY banner hits it for April’s issue #44.  Based on preview art, we’re also going to see a JSA crossover.

Also announced is that newly-signed DC exclusive artist David Finch will be the regular cover artist for BRIGHTEST DAY!  Apparently, he’ll also be working on other titles, so DC’s definitely gonna get their money’s worth – and us Finch fans will get plenty of awesome art!

And finally, check out an interview with Geoff Johns on what’s coming up with the end of BLACKEST NIGHT and the beginning of BRIGHTEST DAY at ign.

Hell, maybe we’ll join in the fun and put a BRIGHTEST DAY banner on this site!  We are essential reading, you know :-) .

iom_comicsAs promised last week, DC’s Source Blog has announced some huge news! A new bi-weekly series titled BRIGHTEST DAY, will start this April, under the watchful eyes of Geoff Johns and Pete Tomasi.

Announcements on artists are pending, but BRIGHTEST DAY #0 will be drawn by Fernando Pasarin.  Based on preview images, our guesses about a White Lantern seem to be spot on.

More news later on this morning!
