iom_moviesIs it just me, or should “sorcerer” be spelled “sorceror”?  It looks better with the “o” in it, I think.  But spell check, and the English language disagree with me.

Speaking of things that disagree with me, Nicolas Cage is back in yet another sorcery themed movie (the other being Season of the Witch) that looks pretty decent!  In fact, it looks like ol’ Jerry Bruckheimer will have a good year next year between this and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time.

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice stars Cage as Balthazar Blake, a master sorceror in modern-day Manhattan trying to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina, who reminds me of awesome). Balthazar can’t do it alone, so he recruits Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel, one of the dudes who didn’t die in Fanboys), a seemingly average guy who demonstrates hidden potential, as his reluctant protégé. The sorceror gives his unwilling accomplice a crash course in the art and science of magic, and together, these unlikely partners work to stop the forces of darkness. It’ll take all the courage Dave can muster to survive his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.”

And a lot of sh*t blows up.  Apprentice is directed by Jon Turtletaub, who pretty much has directed the only decent Nic Cage films in recent memory, the National Treasure flicks.  He also executive produced Harper’s Island (which kicked ass – go buy it) and directed 3 Ninjas and Cool Runnings (which, in retrospect, do not kick ass).

You know you’re in for a treat when you’re already laughing at a movie during the previews.  And I don’t mean that the trailers screened before The Twilight Saga: New Moon were actually for comedies.  It’s that two of them had Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia and Jennifer’s Body), and both were about writing letters to loved ones who go away.  I don’t know when Seyfried became the “letter love movie” gal, but it just kind of cracked me up.  And then there was the trailer where Robert Pattinson (Team Edward) plays a rebel who falls in love with a crazy chick and Pierce Brosnan (who plays his dad) doesn’t approve.  Oh, and the one with Zac Effron playing a kid who falls for the same chick as Oscar Wilde.  Man…I couldn’t imagine half of the stories that comprise these movies.  I guess that’s why I don’t make the big bucks.

I think my wife was pissed off at me with all the questions I asked after seeing The Twilight Saga: New Moon (and yes, I’m going to type the full title out every time, just because it’s annoying).  Like, “why doesn’t the dad vamp just dye his hair gray so people think he’s getting older?  Why do they keep having to move?  It’s not like they can just move somewhere and automatically be rich just because they’re vampires.  Do vampires shower?  If they can’t shed tears, how can they have orgasms?  Can they have orgasms?  Why is Bella such a bitch?  Why the f*ck did you make me watch that?”

There’s oh so much more after the jump!

The music sounds a lot (to me) like Trans-Siberian Orchestra, but I’m probably wrong.  I have to admit that the trailer for the Louis Leterrier (Incredible Hulk, Unleashed) directed remake of Clash of the Titans looks better than I had expected.  And with a cast including Sam Worthington (Terminator: Salvation), Gemma Arterton (Prince of Persia: Sands of Time), Liam Neeson (Liam Neeson), Ralph Fiennes (duh), and Alexa Davalos (Angel, The Chronicles of Riddick), I’ve got high hopes!

Clash of the Titans is due out March 26, 2010.

Hell to the yes (by the way, make sure you play it in Hi-Res for the better quality image)!

The trailer for the upcoming Mike Newell-directed, Jake Gyllenhall-starring Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time film adaptation has been released and it’s FULL of cool special effect money shots.

I think the film looks pretty cool, but, admitedly, it could also tremendously suck.  I find it funny that some of it seems more inspired by Assassin’s Creed (especially the opening shot of Gyllenhall in the trailer) than it does by PoP.

What say you?

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time comes out May 28, 2010.

Premiering last night on Spike’s Scream Awards was the new trailer for Tim Burton’s upcoming Alice In Wonderland adaptation from Disney.  It just occurred to me that in the next six months, we’ll be getting some new interpretations from Disney of their most classic films, between this and A Christmas Carol (Mickey’s Christmas Carol is still one of the best adaptations of the story, I think).

Alice in Wonderland – Extended Trailer

Alice in Wonderland is due out March 5th in Digital 3D and IMAX, and stars a whole crap ton of people, including Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Crispin Glover, and whoever the heck plays Alice!

Hmmm…something about this film intrigues me:

I mean, don’t we all love Nic Cage in a “creepy uncle who touches you inappropriately” kinda way?

In the supernatural thriller Season of the Witch, Nicolas Cage stars as a 14th century Crusader who returns with his comrade (Ron Perlman) to a homeland devastated by the Black Plague. A beleaguered church, deeming sorcery the culprit of the plague, commands the two knights to transport an accused witch (Claire Foy) to a remote abbey, where monks will perform a ritual in hopes of ending the pestilence.

A priest (Stephen Campbell Moore), a grieving knight (Ulrich Thomsen), an itinerant swindler (Stephen Graham) and a headstrong youth who can only dream of becoming a knight (Robert Sheehan) join a mission troubled by mythically hostile wilderness and fierce contention over the fate of the girl.

When the embattled party arrives at the abbey, a horrific discovery jeopardizes the knight’s pledge to ensure the girl fair treatment, and pits them against an inexplicably powerful and destructive force.

Season of the Witch comes out in March for some unknown reason. But I’ll be there! Can’t be any worse than Wicker Man.

JoBlo has a ton of cool looking Legion banners, featuring the cast of the film that we told you about here.  If you don’t like clicking links, this flick is about God deciding that humans suck, so he sends angels to wipe us out.  But one angel (Paul Bettany) decides to help the few remaining humans.  Legion is due out Jan 22nd, 2010.  And, because it cracks me up every time I see him as an adult, here’s the kid from the first X-Files movie:

What the hell ever happened to the Highlander video game?

What the hell ever happened to the Highlander video game?

The director/producer team of Justin Lin and Neal H. Moritz, who most recently worked together on Fast & Furious, look to be reteaming for a remake of Highlander! Iron Man screenwriters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. Peter Davis, long time producer of Highlander, will also produce the film.

I’m pretty excited about this prospect.  Though some people aren’t big on the Fast and Furious films, Lin is a talented director, and Moritz has a lot of cool projects coming up, including Flash Gordon and The Green Hornet.

We recently spoke about the Highlander franchise’s need for a reboot on an episode of Funnybooks with Aron and Paulie (listen here!).  Maybe it’s time for Highlander to be good again!

The Apocalypse is finally here (for those of us who were anxiously awaiting it) on television’s Supernatural and the sh*t has officially hit the fan.  Old friends are back, new friends are made, and the world is going topsy-turvy.

If you’re trying to avoid spoilers, this week’s episode of Supernatural involved Sam and Dean trying to save their friends (I won’t say who) in a town full taken over by demons as part of the ongoing Apocalypse.  An overall solid episode (about as strong as last week’s, really), tensions are flaring high because of recent events and a very emotional ending sets up for an interesting storyline in the next couple of episodes.

So let’s talk about the newest episode, “Good God Y’all”, and hopefully have plenty of talkback so you guys can tell us what you thought of the episode!

Spoiler-filled discussion after the jump!

Before that, though, am I the only one who’s sad that Katie Cassidy’s hotness is being wasted on Melrose Place instead of here on Supernatural?  Just sayin’.
