I watched five minutes of the pre-show for the MTV Movie Awards last night and had to turn the TV off because I felt like I was getting dumber by the second.  I used to love that awards show, but when the kid who plays Lucius Malfoy wins over the guy who played the villain in Inglorious Basterds, you know you’re not watching quality television.

Still, the one thing that the show is still good for is previews of upcoming big releases…luckily, because of the wonders of the internet (and your buds at IoM), you can watch all the good ones below.  Yes, good ones.  Sorry Eclipse.

iom_moviesOkay….I know this isn’t the type of news we typically report on here at IoM, but something had to be said.  According to Coming Soon, Helen Mirren has joined the cast of the upcoming Arthur remake, which apparently stars…Russell Brand.

I just had a conversation about how much Brand has overstayed his welcome with me, and not just because he’s sleeping with future Mrs. Ex-Aponte, Katy Perry.  And, don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed his performance in Forgetting Sarah Marshall…until I realized he was just playing himself.

And playing a role made iconic by the one and only Dudley Moore?  I don’t get upset when they give Spider-Man organic shooters.  I don’t get upset when they want to remake The Thing (alright, got a little upset about that one).  But recasting Dudley Moore’s iconic role with…Russell Brand?  No me gusta.

iom_moviesYes folks, confirming the long standing rumors, Ivan Reitman has confirmed that he will indeed return, after 21 years, to the Ghostbusters franchise to direct part III.

Apparently, the second draft of the script is being worked on (you’d think after 20 years the friggin’ script would be done), with filming slated to start next year.  So another film to add to the ever growing list of 2012 films.  Just remember to see the movies early in the year, before the world ends.

Ivan’s last swing at directing a film is My Super Ex-Girlfriend, a film my parents liked, but I can’t seem to find anyone else who does.

And get a free f*cking glowstick!

Oh yeah, probably shoulda told you that wasn’t suitable for work.  Sorry bout that.

The above video was directed by the guy who brought us Hatchet (which kicks ass) and Spiral (which also kicks ass), Adam Green.  He does a short film every year that usually have a horror/comedy spin (like last year’s The Tivo).  Check them all out here!

extract_posterI’ve got to admit – I’m not a fan of Office Space.  I didn’t dislike the film, but I’ve only seen it once and found it had a couple of funny scenes, and I’ve got no desire to see it again.  I’ve never been into Beavis and Butthead, and I pretty much hate King of the Hill.  So the name Mike Judge, to me, doesn’t mean a whole hell of a lot.

Still, I’m a huge Ben Affleck fan, and I’ll pretty much see anything (except That 70′s Show) that has Mila Kunis in it, and Jason Bateman is having a pretty good run, so I thought I’d give Extract a try.  It looked funny, and, like I mentioned, had a decent cast.

So, in Extract, Joel (Jason Bateman), the owner of an extract plant, is dealing with an unhappy marriage and an accident on the job that could lead to a potential lawsuit which could ruin the sale of the extract plant to a larger conglomerate.  All the while, Cindy (Mila Kunis), a con artist, is using the unrest in Joel’s life to make some money.  She gets a job at the plant and, in an effort to get her hands on the address of the employee involved in the accident (and reap his settlement rewards), seduces Joel and gets him interested in an affair.  To help convince himself that it’s the right thing to do, his buddy Dean (Ben Affleck) convinces him to hire a gigolo to pose as a pool boy and seduce his wife (Kristen Wiig).  If she does it, so can he, right?  Read the rest of my review after the jump!

The trailer for Zombieland was released today and, man, this flick looks REALLY good!  It cracks me up that Jesse Eisenberg from Adventureland is now in a film called Zombieland.  I’m thinking his next film should be called Pirateland, or, even better, Ninjaland.  What’s Zombieland about?

Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) has made a habit of running from what scares him. Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) doesn’t have fears. If he did, he’d kick their ever-living ass. In a world overrun by zombies, these two are perfectly evolved survivors. But now, they’re about to stare down the most terrifying prospect of all: each other.

Check out the trailer below, or in high definition here!

Don’t get him in the light.

Don’t bathe him.

Don’t feed him after midnight.

Seriously?  Who the hell would buy a pet that you couldn’t bathe?
