As originally announced last June, Telltale Games, the company behind the recent Bone, Sam and Max, and Back to the Future downloadable games, is now going to be bringing us the continuing adventures of Jurassic Park!  Not only that, but were you ever curious as to what ever happened to that can of Barbasol Nedry tried to take off the island in the original movie?  Wonder no more!  Check out the trailer below.

As usual with Telltale Games, Jurassic Park is going to be released as a series of downloable episodes. You can pre-order the entire “First Season” now and save $5 at the official site!

You know, it’s trailers like this that make me wish I was more into online gaming. DC Universe Online seems like it has an awesome story and, despite the flaws I’m hearing about, has generally garnered positive reviews. Luckily, I’m still getting the story in the bi-weekly DC Universe Online Legends that DC started up a couple of weeks ago. But check out this AWESOME new trailer for the game.

DC Universe Online is available on PC and Ps3 NOW!

I grew up on PC Gaming.  Sure, I loved playing on my original Nintendo and Gameboy and all that … but my real passion for gaming came not from Super Mario and Link, but from games like Space Quest, Wing Commander, Monkey Island, King’s Quest and, later on, Gabriel Knight.

Point and click adventure games were my absolute favorite, and as great as they all were, the invention of the CD-Rom made them all the better.  Not only did you not have to swap out as much as ten floppy disks, graphics got better with the added storage space, and games started incorporating video.  While some had stellar production values, like Wing Commander 3, others weren’t so lucky.

Right in between was Noctropolis, a point-and-click adventure that used video as cinematics, as well as featured live actors filmed over digitized graphics.  In the game, you play as Peter Grey, a bookstore owner who spends his lonely nights reading comic books, particularly his favorite comic “Darksheer.” Read the rest of this entry »

[Note: This review will be spoiler-free.]

Twelve years is a long time to wait for a sequel in the world of video games. Expectations build, and players expect a game of epic proportions.

The big question is: Does Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty deliver?

THE STORY

Unlike many of it’s real-time strategy (RTS) counterparts, Starcraft had an interesting and enjoyable story. While the universe compares closely with that of the Warhammer 40,000 games, there is enough uniqueness to give it a flavor of it’s own. The original Starcraft game and the Brood Wars expansion told the story of the three main races: the Terran, Zerg, and Protoss. In Starcraft II, you play as the Terran faction. (There are plans for two expansions that will tell the story of the Zerg and Protoss to be released in the future.) Read the rest of this entry »

Dammit, this makes me want to buy a new PC.  Not that the game looks anything like this entirely-made-of-cinematic TV spot for the new StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty (due out July 27th), but I just know this game has got to be good.  Love the original StarCraft, and this new trailer is just too badass for words…so check it out yourself below?

12Star_Trek_Online_0So the big news last week was that the long awaited Star Trek MMO will be released in February 2010.  Hot damn, right?  Now, the big question… will your system run it?

And more important, will mine?

According to Star Trek Online in a FAQ updated this week:

System Requirements

  • OS: Windows XP SP2 / Windows Vista / Windows 7 (32 or 64-bit)
  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8 Ghz or AMD Athlon X2 3800+
  • Memory: 1GB RAM
  • Video: NVIDIA GeForce 7950 / ATI Radeon X1800 / Intel HD Graphics
  • Sound: DirectX 9.0c Compatible Soundcard
  • DirectX: Version 9.0c or Higher
  • HDD: 8GB Free Disk Space
  • Network: Internet Broadband Connection Required
  • Disc: 6X DVD-ROM

Well, CRAP!

I’m running 1.6 Ghz on my laptop.  And I’ve got some Intel video nonsense that doesn’t sound like it’s near cool enough to handle the game.

Makes me wanna kick a tribble.

This interview will be at the top until Friday!  Scroll down for the latest news!

Okay, so New Comic Book Day is actually Thursday this week and not Wednesday.  Just because Diamond and the publishers took off for the weekend doesn’t mean we did!  That’s right.  Paul and I?  We got work ethic…

In this week’s New Comic Book Day Interview, we visit with John Layman.  Layman’s credits include work for both Marvel and Wildstorm.  He is currently writing hit cannibal cop comic Chew for Image and penning much of the script for Champions Online.  We woke him up early Saturday morning for a chat about Chew, Champions, comic book lettering, and Hollywood.

We even talked a bit about table-top role playing.

bbowlFrancis can suck my big toe.  His video game reviews are…how to put this nicely?  Adequate, I guess.  Y’know, if you haven’t played many video games.  So I thought I’d show him, here at The Wizard Sleeve, just how things are done this time, since I’ll be covering a tabletop game turned video game.

After many long years, it has finally happened.  Someone took a tabletop miniatures game and translated it directly into a video game.  Sure, there have been numerous games based on tabletop rules, but almost all of them adapt the idea instead of sticking to the rules that brought players in to begin with.  Blood Bowl changes that.  So, if you’re already a fan of the tabletop version of the game you have no reason to not pick this up right now.  For the rest of you ill-informed heathens, let me bring you up to speed. Ganon. Because why ruin a good thing?

I haven’t beaten all of the Zelda games, but I’ve played most of them. What gamer our age doesn’t remember that original over world music playing as you walk into the cave. Those fateful words from the old man as he hands you that first sword Link wields. Those words change me in ways I can’t even begin to describe. It is dangerous to go alone. I need to take something with me…

Windwaker starts with you learning the old stories of Ganon being defeated by Link, though I don’t know which time this defeat is. Since Nintendo likes to beat dead horses, every Zelda game has the same plot, same grappling hook and boomerang and the same enemy that occasionally changes his name.

But screw it, we keep playing because it’s a god story and we like the familiarity, s lets talk about this specific one rather then bust on the little leprechaun looking guy. Read the rest of this entry »

Action Doom 2: Urban Brawl

I will spare you my rant and instead link to this wonderful thing so you can download it immediately:

action.mancubus.net

Urban Brawl is a Doom mod, and it’s like Streets of Rage 2 if Streets of Rage 2 were in first person and also a chapter of Sin City.

The game follows your character, a Vietnam veteran now living in the crime ridden slums of New York, as he hits in the streets in search of his kidnapped daughter. The game is fully narrated in a grumbly voice that would put Max Payne to shame,  and even features comic book style cutscenes.

Gameplay is melee focused (you get one handgun and ammo is sparse), but there are a ton of different weapons to get – broken bottles, chains, pipes, nail boards, wrenches, switchblades, etc – many of which have an alternate firing mode, each gradually wears down until it breaks and you’re stuck with your mitts. Fortunately you can toss down a worn weapon and pick up a fresh one easily.  You of course use all these melee weapons to bludgeon, bash, and stab your way through a colorful horde of street thugs on your personal road to justice.

There’s also multiple story paths and endings, as well as a load of secrets and Easter eggs. The different stages are beautifully rendered in bright colors, but still manage to evoke that dirty, urban underbelly feeling.

The best part? It’s absolutely free. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain because this game is awesome and if you don’t love it like I do I will eat my own hat. It’s also stand-alone and does not require Doom to play. Installation is as easy as simply unzipping the file.

So here’s that link again.

(Primary download hasn’t worked for me, so use Mirror 1)
