In 2008 writer Troy Hickman won the second Top Cow Pilot Season with his title Twilight Guardian.  Twilight Guardian was the story of a young woman who was obsessed with being a superhero and went out every night patrolling her neighborhood.  This title was different because it didn’t actually involve any violence or superpowers.  It was simply this one woman’s tale of her delusional life and it captured enough interest to win the Pilot Season voting.

As a fan of Hickman’s previous work and this title in particular I had been eagerly awaiting the series that was the prize granted for wining a Pilot Season.  As time went on I began to wonder if we would ever actually see the title in print.  In June of 2010 Paul and I had the opportunity to interview Filip Sablik the publisher of Top Cow Comics.  Naturally I asked him about the future of Twilight Guardian and was pleased to hear that they were finalizing the art team and the book would be published.  Seven months later after I had given up all hope of seeing it once again the first issue of the title has finally come out. After recording this week’s Funnybooks on Saturday morning I packed up my wife and set out on a three hour drive to Metropolis Illinois for the 32nd annual Superman Celebration.  This was my third time at the celebration and my fifth time visiting the town.  I hope everyone enjoys the footage.    Oh and yeah my wife did the editing and can’t spell at all.

He-Man by Marko Djurdjevic! You may have seen these already, but damn…they’re really cool, so let’s check them out again!

I’m a big fan of Marko Djurdjevic’s art, despite having no idea how to pronounce his name out loud.  He’s done some great work for Marvel Comics.  His art is incredibly stylized and unique, and visually interesting.

Well, turns out, years ago, one of the assignments that got him a huge amount of popularity was to redesign the X-Men for series of tutorial art DVDs. The art was so popular that it caught the attention of Marvel Comics, who offered him an exclusive contract to produce illustrations for some of their title’s covers.

Well, turns out he’s having some fun with character redesigns again, this time with my beloved Masters of the Universe!  I really love the look of almost all of these designs, even the Skeletor one, which is probably the most drastic change.

Check out all the designs at You Bent My Wookie.

Pravda, Pravda, it is true... ROLCATS are hilariously funny!
I have been giggling about ROLCATS all day long.  It combines my two favorite things: Eastern bloc humor and pretty kitties!

Thanks to Richard for the link!

Newsarama.comWow.

For the last two days, I have been following a disturbing thread at Blog@Newsarama.  Blogger J. Caleb Mozzoco engaged in a little link-blogging posted an ill-conceived ‘joke’ concerning a children’s costume event.  The organizers of the event had put out a call for all “superheroes and fairies.” Mozzoco, playing on this wrote:  “Make your own superheroes are gay joke.”

As I write this, there are 15 responses to Mozzoco’s comment and the only ones defending it are Mozzoco himself and another Newsarama blogger.
