Ghost Rider working for the Kingpin?

Getting super powers just in time to find out you only have one month to live?

What mad genius could spawn such tales? Well, as it turns out … that man is Rob Williams!

This week, we speak to Rob about ONE MONTH TO LIVE, which tells the tale of Dennis Sykes, an ordinary guy in New York who suffers an accident that gives him superpowers. The catch is that the accident also leaves him with one month to live. And continuing our SHADOWLAND coverage, we speak about the recently released GHOST RIDER: SHADOWLAND featuring art by Clayton Crain, and how it fits into both the larger Ghost Rider and Shadowland stories!

Yeah…we know.

We talk about Ron Marz and Top Cow Comics all the time.  You’re thinking we should just change the name of the show to Top Cow Books With Aron and Paulie.

But, when you get a chance to talk to someone as interesting as Marz, and about comics as good as Velocity, Angelus, Magdalena, Witchblade, and Artifacts, you jump at the chance.

Our first interview with Ron was a blast, and now that Artifacts #1 has hit shelves (with issue 2 due in a coupla weeks), we figured it was time to touchbase with what’s coming up in the big crossover, as well as where the stories are going in his other titles.  Not only that, we touch on fat, sweaty fanboys and sweet, sweet lesbian lovin’.  Oh and sex with household appliances.  And we cuss a lot…probably because we were all drunk.

Seriously…why are you not listening yet?

Finally able to grasp the concept of the difference between US time and England time, your Funnybooks hosts Wayne and Paulie have a nice little chat with comic book, video game, novel writer and all around nice guy Antony Johnston.

In our second Shadowland interview, we talk about his work on the Daredevil tie-in issues of Shadowland, what’s coming next for ol’ Horn Head, and the tie-in mini series, Shadowland: Blood on the Streets, featuring Silver Sable.  We also chat about his long running epic Wasteland and his work on the Dead Space video game series, as well as what fans can expect in the prequel to the upcoming sequel, Dead Space: Ignition. We even find time to talk about his advice for aspiring comic writers!

A great interview for video game and comic fans alike!

Note: We make reference to a couple of websites for Johnston-related projects, including:

Oh, and we feature music from the Wasteland official soundtrack, also available at the official Wasteland web site!

Did you know that Venice was sinking?  Apparently, the city of Venice floods at least 100 days per year, especially in the tourist areas.

What does that have to do with Christopher Golden, writer of the upcoming Baltimore: The Plague Ships mini-series from Dark Horse Comics?  Well, not only do we talk with Golden about his recently released novel The Chamber of Ten, but we also talk at length about his work with Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, including his Hellboy novels, like The Lost Army.

Months after a devastating plague ends World War I, Europe is suddenly flooded with deadly vampires. Lord Henry Baltimore, a soldier determined to wipe out the monsters, is on the hunt for the creature responsible for this chaos and his own personal tragedy. What he uncovers is a terror as horrific and frightening as any he’s seen on the battlefield. This week, Baltimore: The Plague Ships #1 releases from Dark Horse Comics, and before you read it, you must listen to this awesome interview with writer Christopher Golden!

Your Funnybooks chaps Paulie, Wayne, and Tim have a delightful chat with current Avengers Academy writer, Christos Gage. There’s so much goodness in this interview, that we have to describe it with exclamation points. Marvel at how Christos calls Tim “Chip” repeatedly! Find out the startling secret of how Christos got into writing comics! Discover the Top Cow project that he’s writing that won’t be announced to everyone else until this weekend at Comic Con! Gasp as we discuss the ending of Avengers: The Initiative and the beginning of Avengers Academy! Tense up with anticipation as we discuss the film adaptation of Paradox, Christos’ first creator-owned title! And rush out to your comic shop to buy his new mini-series, Spider-Man/Fantastic Four!

Paul and I can’t tell time.

Specifically, we can’t convert the time difference between the U.S. and the U.K.  Fortunately, Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning have mastered such pedantic concepts as time, thus affording us the opportunity chat with them one Saturday morning.

We chat about Dan’s novel work in the Warhammer 40K universe such as Gaunt’s Ghosts, his passion for Cthulhu, and a whole lot about his affection for role playing games such as Traveller.  Of course it’s a comics podcast and it’s DnA, so we talk about their origins in writing Marvel’s cosmic books and go deep, deep, deep into their current event and it’s impact on Guardians of the Galaxy and Nova…. we discuss Rocket Raccoon and even Groot and of course the big event itself… The Thanos Imperative.

Fhtagn!

This new comic book day, we’ve got something a little different for you – an interview you have to read instead of listen to!

Novelist/comic writer/awesome dude Gregg Hurwitz has been on the show before, and we talked about all manner of cool goodness, including Vengeance of the Moon Knight, his new novel Trust No One (at the time), and the TV show V.

Nowadays, Gregg is pretty busy on tour with his new book, They’re Watching (see if he’s coming to your town here), and gearing up for production on the second season of V but, awesome guy that he is,  in the first of many interviews in the coming months on Shadowland, he spent some time chatting with us about Shadowland: Moon Knight, his new novel They’re Watching, and hints at just what may be coming up for Moon Knight.  After all, Vengeance of the Moon Knight #10 (released TODAY!) is the last issue solicited…

Read after the jump for all the awesome info!

The X-Men are about to face their deadliest threat…Vampire A Go-Go Girls of the Apocalypse!  No, that’s not right…but they are about to start a brand new ongoing series, an adjectiveless X-Men #1, written by Vampire A Go-Go and Go-Go Girls of the Apocalypse novelist Victor Gischler!  Not only that, the premiere of the series kicks off a huge Marvel event known as the Curse of the Mutants, which will see the X-Men team up with Blade and others to take down the growing vampire menace in the Marvel U.  And it all starts with this week’s release of The Death of Dracula, also written by Gischler.

We sat down recently to talk to Victor Gischler about Deadpool Corps, the ending of Deadpool: Merc With A Mouth, the new X-Men series, vampires, and his growing collection of awesome novels, ranging from post-apocalyptic horror to hard-boiled crime.

Green Arrow #1 comes out this week.  To celebrate, we have Green Arrow writer J.T. Krul!

In this week’s New Comic Book Day Interview, we chat with J.T. (call him J.T.  Never call him Jeffery.  He’ll kill you if you call him Jeffery) about his experience working as a production assistant on Seinfeld and his work at Aspen on books such as Fathom and Soulfire.  We reminisce about Michael Turner.  We discuss J.T.’s creator-owned Mindfield and what he’s got in store for Green Arrow.  Most important we learn how to pronounce J.T.’s last name!

While we love all of our interviews, every once in a while, we here at Funnybooks have an interview experience that far surpasses anything we expected.  Today’s New Comic Book Day Interview with Top Cow publisher Filip Sablik is far and away one of our best.

We talk with Sablik about everything Top Cow – overcoming predispositions and delays, successes and failures in trying to bring in new readers, the rising costs of comic books, media properties, all of their current titles, and, of course, the upcoming Artifacts crossover.  We don’t shy away from the tough topics on this one, and Sablik was frank and honest the entire time.

Whether you’re a Top Cow fan or not, this is definitely going to be one of the most unique comic books interviews you’ve ever heard!

Don’t miss it!
