We’re big fans of Raven Gregory on Funnybooks. We’ve spoken about his latest titles, Fly and The Theater, with much love because they’re just damn good books that you should definitely check out. Sad thing, though? We’ve never had Raven on the show. We’ve only really been able to do interviews via e-mail due to his busy calendar. Well…until now. Raven and Paul get on the mic to discuss all of his latest goodies, including Fly, Theater, and Alice in Wonderland, the much anticipated prequel to his hugely successful Return to Wonderland trilogy. Not only that, we get some exclusive news on The Waking 2, a sequel to a book that Raven never intended there to be a sequel to. Plus, we chat about rum, and Raven realizes you can drop the f-bomb on our podcast about halfway into the interview. Check it out!

With a career in comics spanning 40 years, Jim Starlin was responsible for re-imagining such characters as Captain Marvel and Adam Warlock for Marvel… and then killed them. He’s the fellow who gave us Thanos (who loves Death) and over at DC, he killed off Jason Todd in the now infamous A DEATH IN THE FAMILY. Sensing a theme? Currently, Jim Starlin is producing the third volume of his creator owned BREED over at Image Comics. It’s a horror story centering on the activities of Ray Stoner who is half-demon, half-man. Monstrous hijinks ensue. Of course, Starlin was a pioneer in the realm of creator-owned content. Starlin debuted his Vanth Dreadstar character in the serialized Metamorphosis Odyssey appearing in the pages of Marvel’s Epic Illustrated. Beyond that initial serialized story, Dreadstar moved onto his own original graphic novel followed by a monthly under Marvel’s Epic banner followed by a series at First Comics and then a mini-series at Malibu. And I ain’t the only one sporting a chubby for Big Jim. Oh no, Paul has a deep and abiding love for all things Thanos and the Infinity gems.
This new comic book day, we’ve got something a little different for you – an interview you have to read instead of listen to! Novelist/comic writer/awesome dude Gregg Hurwitz has been on the show before, and we talked about all manner of cool goodness, including Vengeance of the Moon Knight, his new novel Trust No One (at the time), and the TV show V. Nowadays, Gregg is pretty busy on tour with his new book, They’re Watching (see if he’s coming to your town here), and gearing up for production on the second season of V but, awesome guy that he is, in the first of many interviews in the coming months on Shadowland, he spent some time chatting with us about Shadowland: Moon Knight, his new novel They’re Watching, and hints at just what may be coming up for Moon Knight. After all, Vengeance of the Moon Knight #10 (released TODAY!) is the last issue solicited… Read after the jump for all the awesome info! Before we get into your current comics work, tell us a little bit about your new novel, THEY’RE WATCHING. Patrick Davis is an average guy going through a hard time. His marriage is on the rocks. He’s growing estranged from his wife, his college sweetheart, who he still loves but can’t find his way back to. He’s an aspiring screenwriter who after years of hard work, finally had his dream fulfilled when he sold a script. But his hopes were quickly dashed when he....

We’ve got some great stuff coming up for listeners of our weekly podcast, Funnybooks with Aron and Paulie, and we thought we’d give you a little tease of what’s to come! First of all, make sure to listen to our recent episodes, including our first Indy Spotlight interview, featuring Love Buzz writer Len Wallace. Don’t know what Love Buzz is? Read the first 22 pages at the Oni Press website, or purchase the book from Amazon! Also listen to our Capricast, where we talk about season one of the new Battlestar Galactica spin-off, Caprica. We had a fun time recording this one, and we’d love to hear what you guys think of the episode, so that we can talk about more TV shows in the future! As for our upcoming guests? Well, click after the jump for a little preview of who we have coming up! And that’s not the last guest we have on board! Keep listening for more announcements!

A very special New Comic Book Day interview this week, as we talk to the writer of Oni Press’ latest hit graphic novel, Love Buzz, Len Wallace. Love Buzz went through a hell of an interesting road making it to publication. Love Buzz tells the tale of Norm Raymer, an aspiring comic artist, who has a turbulent relationship with Maggie. With their passionate ups and chaotic downs, is this love, or a youthful lust? For better or worse, Norm and Maggie must discover whether or not they can ever really make it as a normal couple. Can you really be a normal couple when your whole life is just fodder for your comic book? Love Buzz is a mature take on love that we don’t normally see in comics, and a stellar first work from the entire creative staff. We talk to Wallace about Love Buzz, and the struggles a creator goes through to come up with a follow-up. All independent comic creators should listen to this episode!

TIME MASTERS: VANISHING POINT starts this July, and ties directly into The Return of Bruce Wayne, featuring Rip Hunter, Booster Gold, Superman, and Green Lantern traveling through time trying to find their friend. The six-issue mini will be written and drawn by Jurgens and, as you’ll find out exclusively on our podcast, The Return of Bruce Wayne isn’t the only series that Time Masters will tie into. What’s the big DC event coming that the series is leading directly into? Due to a colossal failure of technology and technician, we lost that episode (aka FailCast). Fortunately, Jeff Parker returned for a second review. And this time, we pushed RECORD. THE SHOW: We talk about all kinds of cool stuff such as Fall of the Hulks, Agents of Atlas, The Uranian, reprints in Marvel Comics, sad comic conventions, the value of new ideas, Portland, mustaches, DC vs Marvel, Doctor Rape, his Image comic Underground and Parker’s upcoming stint as college professor. And much, much more. This interview was one of the most enjoyable we’ve done. Parker’s a hoot. Thanks for your patience, Professor Parker.

In this week’s episode of Funny Books with Aron and Paulie, we encouraged our listeners to come back to the website today for an amazing conversation we had with Agents of Atlas writer Jeff Parker. So, you’ve come to the site today, you’ve checked your podcatcher, and… WTF?!?! Where’s your Funnybook fix?!? Where’s Jeff Parker!?!? What the hell has happened to the awesome??!?! About that… Funny story. It doesn’t appear to have recorded. At first, it was suspected to have suffered an erroneous deletion. But top people within our forensic IT department believe that an epic failure occurred resulting in an aborted file. So, technical difficulties. Looks like we’re going to get to make another love connection with Jeff Parker next week. Fingers. Crossed. Stay tuned for the awesome.

A late night New Comic Book Day Interview for you guys this week, and this one will be at the top of the page until Friday, so make sure you scroll down for the latest news! In this week’s New Comic Book Day Interview, we speak with writer/artist Scott Kolins. Though he is DC-exclusive right now, Kolin’s credits include work for Marvel and Dark Horse Comics, including work on Avengers, BPRD and Hellboy, Marvel Team-Up, Thor: Blood Oath, and a ton of others since starting in the early 90′s. He is probably most popular for his work on an award-winning run on DC’s The Flash with writer Geoff Johns, which was recently followed up with Final Crisis: Rogue’s Revenge. Kolins current work is both the writing and art for his Solomon Grundy epic, which started with Faces of Evil back in January and just hit a fever pitch with the completion of the Solomon Grundy mini-series (which we spoke about on Funnybooks with Aron and Paulie!). Next up, Kolins continues his Grudy opus in the pages of Superman/Batman, before working on the red speedster once more in Blackest Night: Flash. We spoke with Kolins this week and have an interview with him after the jump! (Yup, you gotta read this one!) Solomon Grundy #7 just ended that mini-series, and leads into the upcoming Blackest Night tie-in issues for Superman/Batman. For those who haven’t read the Solomon Grundy mini, can you tell us a little bit about the series? Well, the....
