This week’s question:

You’re hosting a dinner party and can invite comic book character you’d like, who’s on your guest list?

Aron answers at once.

GHOST (aka Elisa Cameron): Okay, sure. She’s dead and all, but still manages to fight crime. So I imagine she’s up on current events, right? I think she’d be a terrific guest. She’d be able to talk about all the cool dead people she’s met (like JFK, and Andy Kauffman – but not Elvis, since he ain’t dead — he sends me messages in my dreams, but that’s another story). Plus, we have an actual non-crime-fighting ghost resident here at our house (no work ethic at all, our ghost). That should make Elisa feel right at home (and maybe she’ll inspire our ghost)! The added bonus is that as a phantom, she’s not likely to eat too much. The odds of us serving beef tenderloin just went up! Read the rest of this entry »

This week’s question:

What is your ideal Teen Titans team?

Paul answers instantaneously, “My ideal Teen Titans team:

  • Tim Drake as…wait for it…the new Nightwing.  Primarily an aesthetic choice because of another member selection later.  Hell, given the whole Batman, Inc. idea, I would even be okay with ol’ Bruce Wayne making Tim a young Batman (maybe with a Batman Beyond-type suit?  Hell yeah!).Tim deserves to be the leader of the Titans and I get why he wasn’t in the team for a while but, seriously…he needs to jump back into the pond.  He’s got the smarts and the moves…he truly is the perfect leader for any team of his peers.
  • Conner Kent (Con-El) – Superboy.  The strong guy of the team.  Not only that, the friendship he has with Tim makes for some great reading.  I’ve been a big fan of Conner for a long time, and I this he deserves a spot on the team.  I’d like to see him get a new costume, too…time to lose the t-shirt/jeans and get into spandex like the rest of the band. This week’s question:

What Elseworlds/What If? story would you most like to see?

Wayne chews on his straw as he sips his Captain and Coke, “The list is so huge that it is hard to narrow it down to just one.  I suppose though the story I would like to see is “What if Ragnarock had not happened?”  I would like to see Thor there when Hulk comes back in World War Hulks.  I would like to see Thor take a side in Civil War.  Then in the very different world that would have created I would love to see if Osborn somehow managed to gain power anyway how that storyline would end since there would be no floating Asgard to Seige.  Thor’s absense and return paved the way for many Marvel stories over the last five years.  I think it would be fun to see just how different the Universe would be if it would have had him in it.” Read the rest of this entry »

This week’s question:

We all have people whom we follow around from book to book because we really like their work.  For this question, what are your five favorite comic book writers?

Paul clears his throat, “This one took me a long time to figure out, since I was trying to determine if I should approach this as “of all time” or “currently.”  I decided to go with “currently,” because some of my all time favorite comic writers just don’t put out enough regular work (like Jeff Smith or Frank Miller) for me to say I’m enjoying anything they currently produce.” Read the rest of this entry »

It’s been many nights since Open Mic Night happened at the Lair, and the place is packed.  A distinguished looking gentleman, sporting a name tag that reads “@WilliamPall,” steps up the mic and pulls out a note…

“I’m sure you’ve heard of the Significant Seven, right? The seven most influential, or otherwise significant comic book superheroes . . .Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel, Captain America, Spiderman, & Plastic Man. Well, ya see, that list came out in ’89. My question is, do you think that list is still accurate, 21 years later? Do you agree with those seven? Who is your Significant Seven?”

In our Funnybooks podcast, we focus on current events, and usually large events.  Most times, the conversations are constrained so that we can fit everything into an hour or so, but here at Funnybooks After Hours (now in its second season after a short hiatus),the discussion continues to topics not covered, greater questions of events in comic past or whatever else strikes our fancy.

This Week’s Question:

Time for some more Haterade!  What one series that is over 100 issues needs to get the axe?  Why do you feel that way, and what would be a cool way to end it?

Walking up the alley, you are unsure if this is the right place.  A non-descript door halfway down the alley catches your eye and after a brief scan of the area, you see the marker that indicates that this is in fact the place.  Etched into a brick above the building is a bat symbol with an ‘X’ through the middle and a lightning bolt below it.

Knocking on the door, you hear a grating sound as a man with a luchador mask and vampire fangs opens the door, “What’s the password?” he asks.  “Beak is lame” you reply, nodding as he steps aside.  Visibility is limited, but as you look around you realize that you found the place.  Stepping up to the microphone, the five recliners are set up on a small stage in the back, as the crew eagerly awaits the question that drove you all the way here, to this secret place.

This week’s question:

After Second Coming cleaned the slate for the X-universe, describe the X-team that would excite you?  What would be your ideal X-men team for a book you would want to pick up? Read the rest of this entry »
