Yes, I have the Monster Builder. I absolutely love it. It's going to make game prep even easier!

Nice article. The section on the conditions to watch out for is spot on. During one fight verses an insubstantial (which in effect is nearly the same as the entire party having the weaken condition for the entire encounter) the fight turned into a grind, and even though I ended it early (by having it die early) the damage was done. So I try to watch out for conditions that can suck the fun out of an encounter.

BTW have you tried the new Monster Builder for DDI subscribers. It is a great tool for creating custom monsters. I whipped out 3 encounters worth of monsters in about 20 minutes. Most of the monsters where copies of existing monsters, but with a few mods to make them more memorable.

Excellent post, Luke! I agree 100% with what you've said here. I stopped using the MMI solos...just too wussy.

I have found that our group's fighter/cleric combination is pretty much unstoppable, though. I think I need to pay a little better attention to the range on some of these effects...

All really good advice especially the bit about status effects. My group is about mid-paragon tier and the DM sometimes chains together status effects against us in very deadly combos. As a result the paragon fights seem to drag on unlike the ones at the heroic tier.
