So a very special edition of Paul’s Horror Flix today!  Since I’m out of town (more on that on this week’s Funnybooks) this week, I’ve been unable to enjoy my typical horror movie goodness.  I know – ghastly!  But, alas, hotel wi-fi has afforded me the opportunity enough to cruise the net, spying on the newest horror trailers for all the monster-filled goodness coming our way!

Another week, another all-new, all-awesome edition of PAUL’S HORROR FLIX!  As promised, I’m back with a double dose of horror this week, and I decided to step up my game a little bit – sure, last week’s Demonic Toys 2 and Road to L had a small droplet of the red stuff, but this week’s contenders poured on ample amounts of what we like to see in our horror flicks – chunky, gooey, dripping blood and guts!

The two contenders this week are Cabin Fever: The Director’s Cut, out now on blu-ray, and Doghouse (currently only available on import DVD).  How do they measure up?  Find out after the jump!

Yes folks, after a brief hiatus (our winter finale was on December 29th…heh), we bring you the new season of PAUL’S HORROR FLIX!  What’s changed this time around?  Well, how about a weekly column (every Wednesday) where you get not one, but TWO horror reviews every week!  Check in every Wednesday for your weekly dose of horror goodness!

Today’s contenders?  Demonic Toys 2, the newest film from Full Moon Studios and the sequel to the original cult classic from the 90’s (with Tracy Scoggins), and Road to L, a mysterious, very hard to find Lovecraftian movie that’s garnered critical acclaim from other sites.

After hitting critical success with their film Undead, The Spierig Brothers were given not only more money to play with, but an all-star Hollywood cast to fill their toy box.  The result?  Daybreakers, a semi-apocalyptic vampire flick that tells the story of a world where humans are an endangered species, and the world’s vampire population needs to come up with a way to either come up with more blood sometime soon, or a cure to their vampirism.

Daybreakers was released theatrically this past Friday nationwide, and stars Ethan Hawke, Sam Neill, and Willem Dafoe.

Yes folks, Van Damme has returned for a rematch with none other than Dolph Lundgren, and UFC Heavyweight  Andrei Arlovski along to help in the ass kickery!  There’ve been many talks about “going back to the well” long after it’s dry, but recent attempts (like Rocky Balboa and Rambo) by aging action superstars have proved surprisingly good, and Van Damme’s recent JCVD, while overrated, was worth the watch.

Of course, now we’re talking about Univeral Soldier, a franchise which, really, was never that good.  The original is definitely a guilty pleasure, followed by some JCVD-less straight to video sequels (which I never saw), and an abysmal theatrical sequel with Bill Goldberg.  Universal Soldier: Regeneration is due out February 2nd on DVD and Blu-Ray, and features the return of both Van Damme and original villain Dolph Lundgren, under the direction of John Hyams, son of Peter Hyams (The Relic, End of Days).

Does Regeneration capture the guilty pleasure aspect that made the original so enjoyable?  Find out after the jump!

2009 wasn’t the greatest year for movies.  Highly anticipated flicks didn’t match expectations, and the hype engine managed to overhype a ton of mediocre flicks (I’m looking at you, Drag Me to Hell and Laid to Rest).  Still, if you looked hard enough, you would definitely find some diamonds in the rough, and it’s a true testament to the quality of Hollywood when you’ll notice that half of my top 10 films of the year…were either not released in theaters at all, or were given a very limited release.

Just to set the record straight before we start, films I haven’t seen as of this writing that probably would have made the list are:

Sherlock Holmes, Avatar, District 9, Moon, Fantastic Mr. Fox
