Finally able to grasp the concept of the difference between US time and England time, your Funnybooks hosts Wayne and Paulie have a nice little chat with comic book, video game, novel writer and all around nice guy Antony Johnston.
In our second Shadowland interview, we talk about his work on the Daredevil tie-in issues of Shadowland, what’s coming next for ol’ Horn Head, and the tie-in mini series, Shadowland: Blood on the Streets, featuring Silver Sable. We also chat about his long running epic Wasteland and his work on the Dead Space video game series, as well as what fans can expect in the prequel to the upcoming sequel, Dead Space: Ignition. We even find time to talk about his advice for aspiring comic writers!
A great interview for video game and comic fans alike!
Note: We make reference to a couple of websites for Johnston-related projects, including:
- Antony Johnston’s Official Site

by Paul on Aug.04, 2010, under Columns, Comics, Funny Books with Aron & Paulie, Independent, New Comic Book Day Interviews
Did you know that Venice was sinking? Apparently, the city of Venice floods at least 100 days per year, especially in the tourist areas.
What does that have to do with Christopher Golden, writer of the upcoming Baltimore: The Plague Ships mini-series from Dark Horse Comics? Well, not only do we talk with Golden about his recently released novel The Chamber of Ten, but we also talk at length about his work with Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, including his Hellboy novels, like The Lost Army.
Months after a devastating plague ends World War I, Europe is suddenly flooded with deadly vampires. Lord Henry Baltimore, a soldier determined to wipe out the monsters, is on the hunt for the creature responsible for this chaos and his own personal tragedy. What he uncovers is a terror as horrific and frightening as any he’s seen on the battlefield. This week, Baltimore: The Plague Ships #1 releases from Dark Horse Comics, and before you read it, you must listen to this awesome interview with writer Christopher Golden!

Funnybooks with Aron and Paulie: Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning
by Aron on Jul.13, 2010, under Comics, Funny Books with Aron & Paulie, Marvel, New Comic Book Day Interviews, Role Playing Games
Specifically, we can’t convert the time difference between the U.S. and the U.K. Fortunately, Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning have mastered such pedantic concepts as time, thus affording us the opportunity chat with them one Saturday morning.
We chat about Dan’s novel work in the Warhammer 40K universe such as Gaunt’s Ghosts, his passion for Cthulhu, and a whole lot about his affection for role playing games such as Traveller. Of course it’s a comics podcast and it’s DnA, so we talk about their origins in writing Marvel’s cosmic books and go deep, deep, deep into their current event and it’s impact on Guardians of the Galaxy and Nova…. we discuss Rocket Raccoon and even Groot and of course the big event itself… The Thanos Imperative.
Fhtagn!

by Paul on Jun.16, 2010, under Columns, Comics, Funny Books with Aron & Paulie, Image, New Comic Book Day Interviews
While we love all of our interviews, every once in a while, we here at Funnybooks have an interview experience that far surpasses anything we expected. Today’s New Comic Book Day Interview with Top Cow publisher Filip Sablik is far and away one of our best.
We talk with Sablik about everything Top Cow – overcoming predispositions and delays, successes and failures in trying to bring in new readers, the rising costs of comic books, media properties, all of their current titles, and, of course, the upcoming Artifacts crossover. We don’t shy away from the tough topics on this one, and Sablik was frank and honest the entire time.
Whether you’re a Top Cow fan or not, this is definitely going to be one of the most unique comic books interviews you’ve ever heard!
